About The Center for Advanced Computing

The Center for Advanced Computing (CAC) at Cornell offers a wide array of services to support the computational research requirements of university faculty. Its primary mission is to enhance and facilitate research capabilities, aiding scientists and scholars at Cornell in achieving innovative breakthroughs. CAC's services encompass high-performance compute clusters, cloud computing (Red Cloud service), and personalized technology and application consulting, all customized to meet individual research needs.

The Opportunity

This role reports to both the Cornell Center for Advanced Computing (CAC) and the Cornell Institute for Digital Agriculture (CIDA). The CAC offers a wide range of computational services to facilitate digitally-driven research for Cornell faculty, while CIDA focuses on sustainable agriculture and food systems by integrating technology, policy, and practice to drive discovery and innovation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the initial point of contact for visitors and inquiries to both centers.
  • Manage financial transactions, including travel reimbursements, invoicing, and expense reporting.
  • Coordinate scheduling for meetings and maintain meeting minutes and notes.
  • Assist in planning and organizing events, such as workshops, the CIDA Hackathon, seminars, and faculty visits, including handling event contracts, collecting materials, organizing speakers, and providing A/V support.
  • Support outreach activities, including private partnership activities, posting news and events, and managing social media visibility for both centers.
  • Support the annual CIDA grant application cycle and maintain records of grant recipients.
  • Assist in preparing funding proposals for programs at the National Science Foundation and Department of Agriculture, including managing supporting documents and collaborating with proposal drafting teams.
  • Coordinate projects in the execution phase, ensuring adherence to strict deadlines and facilitating communication between multiple faculty and institutions.
  • Provide periodic reports to funding agencies as needed.
  • Promote and contribute to a positive culture of inclusion, diversity, and connectedness within the Cornell campus community.

What We Need

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with various business and technical programs, including Microsoft Office suite, spreadsheets, databases, and Google applications.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities thoughtfully.
  • Positive, service-oriented attitude and sound judgment when interacting with a diverse range of constituents.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Strong willingness and ability to learn new tasks and adapt quickly under pressure.
  • Effective team-player with strong attention to detail, excellent organization, and flexibility.
  • Capable of multitasking and possessing a creative mind for problem-solving and process improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Experience in or a commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

  • 2 to 4 years of proven administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in an academic environment.
  • Experience with booking travel arrangements and using travel management systems.
  • Familiarity with University web-based systems such as Workday, e-Shop, Lyris, and Box is preferred.
  • Knowledge of other web-based systems, including Doodle polling, Google Docs, web content management, and social media platforms, is also preferred.
  • Experience with proposal development and grant-funded activities is a valuable asset for this role.
