The Rescue Mission is seeking a Volunteer Services Manager to work in the Main Campus in Syracuse, NY. Under the direction of Development Team Leadership, the Volunteer Services Manager will increase the capacity of the Rescue Mission to put love into action by providing meaningful long-and-short term volunteer opportunities for individuals, families and organizations to become involved with the Rescue Mission. The Volunteer Services Manager will coordinate and collaborate across departments to facilitate and schedule such opportunities. The Volunteer Services Manager will oversee the Volunteer Services Coordinator.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Responsible for managing all aspects of the volunteer services department.
• Develops and implements effective volunteer management systems, including processes, measurements, information collection, reporting and planning to ensure organizational excellence in working with volunteers.
• Recruits, screens, interviews and prepares volunteers for individual positions.
• Keeps current on national and local issues in volunteerism through self-learning and participation in professional organizations
• Creates enthusiasm and promotes volunteer usage throughout the organization by networking with Rescue Mission Leadership and Staff
• Works collaboratively with Rescue Mission leaders in creating unique and individual opportunities for volunteers.
• Creates volunteer awareness by establishing communication networks with community organizations.
• Works closely with Donor Development in cultivating corporate volunteerism.
• Responsible for all aspects of the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter holiday seasons volunteer activities.
• Helps organize, schedule, and execute donation drives and in-kind donations from local businesses and community groups

Education Requirements

• Associate’s Degree with work experience in human services or equivalent work experience
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Needed to Perform Effectively in this Position

• Prior leadership experience preferred
• Previous experience with volunteer programs and services preferred
• Ability to build & maintain volunteer relationships 
• Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
• Excellent verbal, written and social media communication skills
• Comfort with public speaking and presentations
• Knowledge of fundraising concepts helpful
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel & Power Point and Microsoft Outlook
• Passion for the mission and vision of the organization
