Principal Structural Engineer Job Summary
As a Principal Structural Engineer, you will assume a critical role as an owner's engineer within the Civil, Structural, and Architectural discipline, primarily at the Whiting Refinery. Your responsibilities will encompass defining scopes and meticulously reviewing third-party contractor deliverables for repairs, replacements, and expansions on the existing refinery infrastructure.

Principal Structural Engineer Responsibilities

• Define scopes of work and provide comprehensive review of contractor deliverables related to Civil, Structural, and Architectural aspects of refinery projects.
• Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and third-party contractors to ensure adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Employ your expertise in foundation and superstructure scopes, ensuring structural integrity and compliance with industry best practices.
• Evaluate designs from BP's vendors, including elements of LEED certification, and provide insightful feedback to optimize sustainability and efficiency.
• Demonstrate proficiency in relevant codes, standards, and general design principles to uphold regulatory compliance and engineering excellence.

Principal Structural Engineer Position Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; advanced degree preferred.
• Extensive (12 years) experience in structural engineering within the oil & gas industry, particularly in North American refineries or petrochemical plants.
• Previous experience with BP projects is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of relevant codes, standards, and best practices in civil and structural engineering.
• Exceptional communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to undertake domestic travel, with approximately one to two site visits per month (five days duration each).
