I&C Engineering Supervisor Job Summary
Our client, a leading full-service engineering, design, and construction company that provides services to the oil & gas, manufacturing, heavy industrial, and mining industries is searching for an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineering Supervisor for their Denver-area office. They work on all sizes of projects across North America at a fast pace while providing a team-centric approach to work.

The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineering Supervisor is a hands-on, full-time position responsible for managing a team of 3 to 10 I&C Engineers. In addition to having skills at a Senior Engineering level, candidates will manage their direct reports in all aspects, including hiring, training, mentoring, QA/QC of deliverables, performance reviews, performance improvements and terminations. The I&C Engineering Supervisor is also responsible for coordinating with other supervisors and directors to resource projects, contribute to business development and proposals, assist with recruiting and interviewing, and creating/revising/improving department standards.

I&C Engineering Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Effectively analyzes resource needs, organizes, and allocates resources. Coordinates with Project Managers for resources and deliverable dates. Assesses resources with Project Managers to ensure allocation can fulfill the technical requirements.
  • Periodically review project budgets and schedules. Facilitate team meetings and participate in all department meetings.
  • Fosters creativity and innovation while motivating employees to excel. Performs timely employee reviews and development plans for employees. Identifies and sponsors training for employees. Coaches and trains employees and delegates responsibility to develop staff.
  • Promptly addresses and documents personnel or performance issues and resolves the conflict by engaging the department Director and the Director of Operations. Develop and implement performance improvement plans when necessary.
  • Disseminate company information from Director to direct reports.
  • Review and approve timesheets. Track and approve PTO.
  • Participate in proposal efforts by developing budgets, identifying scope and resources, review schedules, provide feedback on or generating short/long form proposal documents. Facilitate handoff to assigned resources at project kickoff as needed.
  • Review business development forecast with Director regularly.
  • Forecast and identify staffing needs. Participate in the interview process. Initiate new hire process and conduct onboarding with new hires. Complete 90-day assessments of new hires to gauge progression. Foster a positive team environment. Conduct regular reviews of compensation and make recommendations. Review and revise performance metrics and update job descriptions with Director.
  • Produces and checks I&C engineering deliverables in alignment with company standards and procedures.
  • Collaborates with project team members on interdisciplinary technical deliverables

I&C Engineering Supervisor Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineering License and 10 years' experience practicing discipline-specific engineering on multidiscipline project teams or 12 years' experience practicing discipline-specific engineering on multidiscipline project teams required.
  • 5 years of management experience required.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills to manage complex situations and resolve solutions anticipating needs now and into the future.
  • Demonstrated ability of leadership skills with experience leading teams through strategic processes and aligning with peer group project needs and timelines.
  • Experience with HYSYS, Unisim, ProMax, and/or VMG Symmetry, as well as proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Ability to self-direct and have a sense of responsibility for own tasks, deliverables, and timelines, as well as have an awareness of own tasks, and how it impacts the team and deliverables.
