Chief Mechanical Engineer - Remote

Supervise, provide technical guidance, mentorship, leadership and technical expertise; interpret, evaluate performance of, manage projects/tasks and participate in activities of a newly formed team dedicated to developing Alternative Tailings Technologies projects as a material handling specialist, focused on conveyance and stacking of tailings and waste materials. As part of a team, Develop all relevant components for all phases of investigations and analyses, design, re-design, systems failure analysis and prevention, project execution, field trials, or other design functions within an appropriate time and cost. This position will act under limited supervision as a core team member.

Chief Mechanical Engineer - Remote

  • Supervise and provide guidance as subject matter expert (SME) on large/complex mine site engineering projects, including the application of existing technology to new conditions such as larger scale or different material properties. Projects may also include internal multi-disciplinary team collaboration as well as vendor partnerships to develop new systems and processes to achieve objectives.
  • Collaborate with relevant corporate and site Engineering teams as well as site Operational and Maintenance departments to integrate existing best practices into project design process
  • Serve as Project Engineering Leader to develop and author engineering reports such as concept design, feasibility studies, alternative analysis, failure analysis and prevention, safe work practice, procedural manuals and final design documents.
  • Review, improve, and apply tailings handling systems and associated procedures for assigned facilities to achieve good practice.
  • Develop and evaluate AFEs (Authorization for Expenditure) for capital funding requirements.
  • Evaluate and administer contracts, provisions of services and equipment, perform strategic planning and budgeting
  • Perform planning, scheduling and economic analysis
  • May be responsible for field trial/execution activities for extended periods as projects progress, including being in a role of supervision to front/line or technical employees
  • Use design computer software such as AutoCAD, SAP, Microsoft Project and discipline-specific software tools
  • Evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement and benchmark other operations for continuous improvement alternatives.
Chief Mechanical Engineer - Remote Requirements
  • This position requires international air travel. In accordance with company's requirement for all employees whose job requires international travel, if you are hired you will be required to submit proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to travel by air internationally, unless the company has granted a medical or religious accommodation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline and seven (7) years related experience in engineering in a mine or industrial environment pertaining to equipment modifications and retro-fits., OR
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline and five (5) years related experience in engineering in a mine or industrial environment pertaining to equipment modifications and retro-fits
  • Recent hands-on experience using the principles and practices of mechanical engineering at a mine or industrial site in 2 of the following areas:
    • Reliability centered maintenance to include vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasound and infrared technology
    • Oil analysis for systems management
    • Leading engineering and construction activities for development projects
    • Implementing and managing maintenance improvement plans based on data analysis
  • Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of mechanical engineering
  • Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written, including the ability to actively listen and to adapt behavior and communication style based upon the audience
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skill in following safety practices, and recognizing, controlling and/or eliminating hazards Ability to build trust and credibility with employees/peers and establish common goals and expectations
