CopperPoint has an exciting opportunity for an Attorney III. The attorneys within this classification are the most experienced and skilled within the workers’ compensation litigation specialty. They provide guidance to the lesser experienced attorneys relating to established office policies, Industrial Commission procedures and applicable rules of court and appellate procedure. They also provide legal representation on behalf of the company and its’ policyholders in workers’ compensation proceedings before the Industrial Commission of Arizona and Arizona appellate courts. The incumbent[s] within this classification may handle high exposure and complex cases.
This position may handle high exposure and complex cases. They have overall responsibility for the thorough review of claims files, identify legal issues and conduct discovery in preparation for hearings before the Industrial Commission. This preparation includes taking depositions, scheduling independent medical examinations, conferring with claims adjusters, policyholders and physicians. The attorneys in this classification make the determination to retain other witnesses, such as labor market consultants and investigators. The incumbent[s] will conduct settlement negotiations, draft legal motions and memoranda, interview witnesses, and participate in mediation conferences. The incumbent[s] in this classification will have the responsibility for the preparation of appellate briefs for submission to the Arizona Court of Appeals and Supreme Court, as well as present oral argument to the courts as required. The attorney will comply with legal filing deadlines on all cases.
