POSITION TITLE: 24-25 Secondary Health Science Teacher
PAY SCHEDULE / GRADE: Exempt - Teacher
HOURS PER DAY: 8
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide learners with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the Health Science Technology field to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable learners to develop competencies, skills, and certifications to function successfully in a health-related field.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or a Professional Standards Commission (PSC) determined equivalent with 2 years health-related experience
  • Registered Nurse certification preferred
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned or ability to enter an alternative certification program

EXPERIENCE:
  • 2 years occupational work experience in a Healthcare related field

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Strategies
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Design and implement learning experiences in alignment with the district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Design clear, well-organized learning experiences within the broader scope of a unit to ensure success of all learners.
  • Utilize the CISD Learning Framework and curriculum resources to design active and engaging learning experiences to promote learning as a lifelong process.
  • Utilize digital devices as a tool for instruction, assessment, and evidence of learning.
  • Facilitate/coordinate a rigorous Health Science Technology (HST) curriculum with career related instruction.
Responding to Learners
  • Design and implement learning experiences that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and needs.
  • Work cooperatively with other educators to provide individualized instruction for special populations, reflective of learner need, in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Support learners relative to their educational, personal, and social growth and development.
  • Respect the cultures, backgrounds, and values of learners and their families.
  • Engage in a professional learning community to ensure success of all learners.
Learner Growth and Development
  • Assist learners in analyzing data to set personal goals and habits to achieve growth.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of learner achievement through summative and formative assessment and analyze data to inform instruction.
  • Assess and provide differentiation to assure learner progress while managing the learning environment.
  • Administer developmental testing programs, subject-specific formative and summative assessments, and industry-recognized technical skill assessments for the purpose of evaluating learners’ industry certification competency level attainment.
  • Assume responsibilities for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create learning spaces that are conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of learners.
  • Provide a safe learning environment.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the CISD Classroom Management Framework, the Student Code of Conduct, and the Student Handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in the selection and management of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Communication
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication and positive working relationships with learners, educators, administrators, and parents.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, learners, parents, and community members.
  • Establish and maintain industry and post-secondary connections to promote/encourage learners’ participation in continuing education opportunities; including, Dual Credit and Articulation Credit Programs.
  • Use effective communication skills.

  • Maintain professional competence through ongoing educational and professional development training, as required for certification.

  • Attend and participate in campus meetings and serve on campus and district committees as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise assigned educator assistant(s).

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom and medical equipment.
