The City of Coppell is hiring a Fleet Services Technician to maintain and repair our diverse fleet of City-owned vehicles, including automobiles, trucks, equipment, and emergency vehicles. Pay PlanThis opportunity is non-exempt and on Pay Grade #11. The full Pay Grade range is shown for growth and development opportunities within the grade. Salary determination is supported by budget availability and qualifications of the candidate to maintain internal equity.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 5 years of general automotive and/or truck repair experience.
  • 2 years of small engine repair experience.
  • 1 year of heavy equipment repair experience.
  • Possession of current ASE certifications: A4, A5, A6, and A7 or T4, T5, T6, T7, and T8.
  • Additional desirable qualifications:
    • Current EVTCC certifications 
    • Trade school or college study in a field related to automotive repair 
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge
  • Excellent technical and working knowledge of methods and techniques used in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and other related vehicular maintenance.
  • In-depth knowledge of automotive systems and sub-systems, including basic electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic principles.
  • Familiar with the safe operation of a variety of hand and power tools.
Skills
  • Proficient in following written and verbal instructions to perform quality repairs on a wide variety of vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
  • Skilled in performing physically demanding tasks using hand tools, welding equipment, and power equipment.
  • Ability to operate specialized automotive diagnostic equipment.
  • Competent in reading and interpreting diagrams, schematics, charts, and tables for proper diagnosis and repair of automobiles, emergency vehicles, trucks, and equipment.
  • Proficient in comprehending, interpreting, and working from schematics, manuals, sketches, and diagrams.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with City officials, coworkers, and vendors.
Abilities
  • Ability to work closely with others as part of a team and perform tasks as directed by the Fleet Services Manager.
  • Capable of performing tedious and exacting work, and managing multiple tasks simultaneously under time pressure in a noisy environment.
  • Capable of frequent repetitive hand and gripping movements.
  • Ability to safely operate City-owned equipment and motor vehicles.
