With a commitment to our vision that strong relationships drive strong results and better business, our people make Cooper Machinery Services legendary.General Field Service Technician Summary:The Field Service Technician I will provide hands-on technical, and operations support of GE Reciprocating Compression equipment and supporting utility systems within customer facilities during commissioning, start-up, operations, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance testing, and trouble-shooting situations as requiredEssential Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Field Services Supervisor or Manager, provide technical and mechanical services to external customers in settings such as workshops, compressor stations, process plants, etc. The incumbent is also responsible for the following:Aid in the planning and execution of installation activities for Reciprocating Compression equipment.Assist in the investigation and resolution of customer reports of technical problems with equipment.Performing preventative maintenance with site team leader guidance.Diagnose and correct engine problems with supervision.Repair and / or rebuild reciprocating engines and compressors per site team lead.Complete safety checks and report safety concerns.Monitor key and critical operation variables and other process data, report to site team lead, and together ensure that the units are operating within design parameters.At team leads’ direction, attend on-site operations meeting with client personnel to proactively identify issues and lead the efforts to resolve them.Participate in construction activities to ensure process designs are used for operational and safety, identifying improvements in unit operations based on actual field experience.With team lead guidance, establish working relationships with key customer contacts including operators, engineering, and maintenance personnel to proactively manager long term and short-term issues.Participate in safety and environmental reviews and be a key participant in process hazard reviews.Perform troubleshooting / provide problem solving assistance to customers in correcting or repairing the customers’ equipment. With team lead guidance, support turn-around activities for customers including identification / justification, procedure writing, reviews, equipment inspection, etc.Travel 200-300 days per year anywhere from 2-14 weeks at a time.Work extended hours up to 10-14 hours per day including weekends/holidays, 6 – 7 days per week. A typical work week can be 60-84 hours.Ascend/descend ladders to examine equipment, position yourself to examine equipment including in confined spaces, move boxes weighing from 40 -50 pounds, work in outdoor weather conditions, walk long distances and share company vehicles with other employees at customer sites. Qualifications: 0 - 1 years of experience in the industry, experience with Reciprocating Compression equipment a plusFamiliarity with a variety of technical field concepts, practices, and procedures.Must have the following attributes:Safety focused, Service-oriented, Business focused, A self-starterDependable with ability to handle multiple activities successfullyMature with the ability to take direction, well-developed administrative and organizational skills,Result oriented with a sense of urgencyGood verbal and written communication skills and above average interpersonal skills are requiredEducation - Complete training for the following:Associates Degree with a technical concentration (Bachelor’s Degree preferred) or equivalent work experience (minimum)Formal training in a technical certificate programTechnical training in the oil and gas industry or associated industryMaster the Core competencies:-Basic toolsBasic Engine & Compressor TheoryBasic Product KnowledgeCooper Bessemer, Ajax, Superior Engine, Superior Compressor, Gemini Compressor, Clark, Waukesha, Dresser, CaterpillarBasic Shop Math SkillsBasic Computer skills – Word & ExcelCooper Machinery Services is an equal opportunity employer and gives all qualified applicants consideration of employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, any other characteristic protected by law.
