Position Description: GENERAL SUMMARY The Pharmacy Technician, Oncology will perform duties in the pharmacy department including knowledge of pharmacy practice and clinic procedures to prepare medications for the infusion clinic. Along with preparing hazardous and non-hazardous medication compounding; preform environmental monitoring; maintain drug inventory; clean ante-room and will perform other activities as required by the applicable federal and state pharmacy regulations according to USP 797 and USP 800 standards. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technician will work under the supervision of the oncology pharmacist to prepare medications for infusion clinic patients.
Compounds both hazardous and non-hazardous IV pharmaceutical preparations using proper aseptic technique.
Follows all documented instructions, warnings, processes and best practices to ensure safe and effective drug preparation.
Performs environmental monitoring, sanitation, testing and other activities as required by applicable federal and state pharmacy regulations and USP 797 and USP 800.
Monitors and maintains drug inventory including receiving, stocking, pulling, and tracking drug items according to established policies and procedures.
Performs periodic inventory checks to rotate stock and pull out of date stock.
Cleans ante-room and clean room according to USP 797 and USP 800 standards.
Maintains clean room logs.
Perform other duties as assigned by Pharmacy Supervisor or Pharmacy Manage
Position Requirements: PHARMACY HOURS: Monday through Friday; 7:30AM to 11:30AM with occasional weekend hours for special projects. INIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: o Pharmacy Technician Certification, knowledge of Microsoft Office products, knowledge of supply and equipment ordering and inventory control, written and verbal communication skills, acuity with numbers, Hospital or outpatient infusion experience that includes IV compounding of hazardous and non-hazardous drugs CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS ETC.
Currently registered as a pharmacy technician by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy (ALBOP); active registration will be required prior to the date of hire. Currently certified as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT or ExCPT) by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: o At least 2 years of IV room experience or 1 year of hazardous compounding experience or Five years of Retail Pharmacy experience. o Parenteral Compounding Certification
