Building Custodian

Summary

Performs custodial maintenance duties, including dusting, mopping, finishing, & buffing floors, vacuuming & shampooing carpets, cleaning, restocking restrooms, & performing basic repair & maintenance of building items.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Performs general, routine custodial duties, including dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, & restocking paper & soap supplies.
• Empties trash receptacles; dispose of trash, & bags trash for proper disposal.
• Reports any needs & concerns to facilities staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders & checking supply levels; responsible for reporting concerns related to building or other items observed during daily walk-throughs & inspections. Must be able to open/close & edit work orders on the computer & mobile device as well as communicate through email.
• Ensures proper care in the use & maintenance of equipment & supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety & environmental practices.
• Performs cleaning functions specific to the facilities &/or based on seasonal/project requirements; trimming trees & shrubs, & lawn maintenance.
• May provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning, & service, & may answer basic questions. May report issues with vendors to supervisor.
• Assists & performs snow removal activities & minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, assembling/adjusting furniture, & minor oversight of building equipment maintenance & repairs, as well as other duties as assigned.
• Will move materials & furniture as required, as well as perform event setup/cleanup.
• Will report building malfunctions as instructed, i.e., power failures, leaks, building equipment, & any other damages.
• Will assist in sweeping & washing with hose exterior sidewalk, & playground.
• Check all drains & remove debris & inspect, restock, & clean all areas of the building. Maintain supply inventory in designated locations.
• Ability to read & interpret documents such as safety rules, operating & maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, online calendars, & other similar google suite applications.
• Must demonstrate minimum professional proficiency in the English Language & communicate clearly. Must be able to safely utilize ladders.
• Will distribute packages & other deliveries.
• Hold & maintain Certificates of Fitness for School & Building Functions.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

• High School; 5 years experience required.
