Conroe Independent School District is Hiring an Early Childhood Specialist (Pre-K and Kindergarten) Near Conroe, TX
Serve as a specialist in early childhood to improve the overall success of the Early Childhood Program and strengthen the academic performance students in the program. Provide leadership in the analysis of assessment data and in examining trends in student performance. Provide leadership in orienting teachers and staff to the expectations of an exemplary early childhood curriculum focused on both local and state guidelines.
- Develop, plan, implement, and evaluate Early Childhood curriculum and instructional programs with district and campus instructional coaches, teachers, and principals, including learning objectives, instructional strategies, performance objectives, and assessment techniques.
- Utilize district studies, research, and state of the art early childhood programs to improve curriculum, instruction, and staff development.
- Work with teachers and appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review within state and district guidelines and the district mission statement and goals.
- Work with teachers and appropriate staff to evaluate and select instructional materials.
- Encourage incorporation of appropriate use of technology in data submission to the state as well as the teaching/learning process.
- Utilize available assessment results to assist in program evaluation.
- Recommend policies, regulations, and procedures as appropriate; prepares and maintains necessary reports and/or descriptive statistics of the assigned discipline area.
- Identify short and long-range goals for assigned discipline area based on assessment of need, goals of the curriculum department, and the district mission statement and goals.
- Work as a collaborative member of the Teaching and Learning Department.
- Coordinate a united early childhood program with District Early Childhood Instructional Coaches and the Elementary Mathematics and Early Childhood Coordinator.
- Work in collaboration with the Coordinators of Bilingual and ESL Programs and Student Support Services to help support the district’s Early Childhood Program.
- Consult positively and effectively with principals, teachers, assistant principals, team leaders, and parents.
- Demonstrate skill in conflict resolution.
- Communicate district instructional goals and objectives of the assigned discipline area to administrators, staff, and community as appropriate.
- Monitor student achievement data and interprets, reports, and acts on results.
- Develop course offerings in conjunction with the Coordinator of Elementary Mathematics and Early Childhood as appropriate.
- Serve as mentor to guide and build capacity of the District Instructional Early Childhood Coaches with the guidance from the Coordinator of Elementary Mathematics and Early Childhood.
- Secure consultants, specialists, and other community resources for campus and district staff and curriculum development.
- Provide effective in-service activities by using district goals, program evaluations, and teacher and administrator input.
- Monitor curriculum office staff to insure smooth and efficient communication with campuses and other central office staff.
- Upon request, provide assistance to principals regarding personnel.
- Assist with T-TESS upon request.
- Implement the policies established by Federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and the local board policy as pertains to the assigned discipline area.
- Define and recommend the fiscal needs in the budget development process for Early Childhood instructional programs.
- Demonstrate responsible fiscal control over assigned program budgets.
- Recommend space, equipment, instructional materials, and facilities necessary for the implementation of approved programs.
- Supervise the organization, distribution, and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment as appropriate.
- Seek grant funding as pertains to assigned discipline area.
- Ensure that teacher expectations are effective in furthering the teaching/learning process and environment.
- Support the district and campus procedures that enhance positive self-esteem.
- Ensure teacher expectations, as student’s management procedures are developmentally appropriate.
- Keep informed of research, disseminate ideas to other professionals, identify trends and opportunities and apply this information as appropriate.
- Demonstrate steps taken for professional growth.
- Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards.
- Maintain memberships and active participation in professional organizations.
- Regular attendance.
- Communicate district curriculum, instructional and staff development practices, as well as accomplishments, goals, and instructional initiatives to parents and others in the community.
- Solicit community input on curriculum and instructional issues.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
- Three years successful teaching experience in Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, or First Grade
- Three-years successful instructional leadership experience
- Experience in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation
- Experience in presenting engaging and targeted professional development
- Experience in facilitating and/or working with teams (i.e., team leader, curriculum writing teams, etc.)
- Experience using instructional technology in the classroom
Education/Certification:
- Master’s Degree in curriculum and instruction and/or context area
- Valid Texas Teaching Certification for Early Childhood
- Instructional Leadership Training (ILT) or Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL), or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
- District approved appraisal system, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Extensive background and working knowledge of early childhood development, curriculum, current research on effective instructional practices, assessment, and professional development
- Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
- Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
- Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills (written and verbal)
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues and others
- Strong technology skills including Learning Management Systems
- Strong knowledge of instructional strategies for at-risk students
- Knowledge of the State of Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines
- Knowledge of early literacy and math acquisition
- Knowledge of CISD READS Literacy Model and CISD Solves Structure
- Knowledge of the Texas Education Agency Student Success Initiative
- Ability to assess Early Childhood education needs and articulate and implement a vision to meet those needs
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environment Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional district travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
