Job Summary Alaska Overview

ConocoPhillips is Alaska's largest crude oil producer and largest owner of exploration leases, with approximately 1.6 million net undeveloped acres at year-end 2021.

The company produced an average of 197 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2021. ConocoPhillips has major ownership interests in two of North America's largest oil fields, both located on Alaska's North Slope-Kuparuk, which the company operates, and Prudhoe Bay.

Additionally, ConocoPhillips operates the Alpine Field located on the Western North Slope. The company has an ownership interest in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and owns / operates the Polar Tankers fleet.

Kuparuk Overview

The Greater Kuparuk Area, located approximately 40 miles west of Prudhoe Bay, encompasses the Kuparuk Field and four nearby satellite fields.

The Kuparuk Field is one of the largest onshore producing fields in the United States, with more than 500 active producing wells.

Rotary-drilled wells and sidetracks from existing wellbores utilizing coiled-tubing drilling are the primary means for development drilling at Kuparuk.

Field installations include three central production facilities that separate oil, natural gas, and water, as well as a seawater treatment plant.

In 2022, ConocoPhillips' net crude oil production at Kuparuk averaged 47 MBOED

Description

The ConocoPhillips Alaska, Inc. (COPA) Greater Kuparuk Area (GKA) Safety Specialist is responsible for delivery of health and safety services to Central Processing Facility (CPF)1 and Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) facilities with an objective to provide a safe working environment through effective risk management, comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, follow COPA Life Saving Rules minimum requirements, and meet COPA HSE requirements applicable to the facilities.

Job Description

Your responsibilities may include :

  • Maintain a high level of visibility, day-to-day, to enhance rapport with operations and maintenance personnel and assure execution of core work practices pertaining to ConocoPhillips' Life Saving Rules, influencing as necessary to improve performance
  • Engage and influence contractors to continuously improve HSE performance
  • Serve as the facility subject matter expert on Alaska Safety Handbook and COPA HSE requirements
  • Participate in facility safety permitting activities when required
  • Provide independent review of tasks including but not limited to : confined space entries, hot tap package, hot work on in-service equipment, excavation / trenching activities, critical lift plans, other applicable tasks as required
  • Participate in and provide health and safety input during facility planning activities
  • Support completion of industrial hygiene and safety monitoring to comply with COPA and regulatory requirements and safeguard employees
  • Lead or assist with incident investigations (e.g., TapRooT® or latent cause analysis) at assigned facilities and participate in other investigations as requested by facility or HSE leadership
  • Provide or coordinate hazard-specific training for personnel, as necessary
  • Support the COPA Medical Clinic on employee medical monitoring, including hearing conservation, bloodborne pathogens, respiratory protection, and fit for work
  • Serve as Site Safety or Safety Officer within the Kuparuk Incident Management Team (IMT) as needed
  • Participate in and support HSE leading indicator programs
  • Assure waste management storage and secondary containments in production operating areas are in compliance
  • Complete other HSE duties as assigned

Basic / Required :

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Engineering, Physical / Biological Science, or related HSE field or foreign equivalent
  • Current / valid driver's license
  • 3 years safety or industrial hygiene experience
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to work in a remote work location on a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off work schedule

Preferred :

  • Master's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene / Public Health, engineering, physical / biological science, or related HSE field
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and / or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification(s)
  • 3 years of practicing safety and / or industrial hygiene experience in the oil & gas industry
  • Knowledge of health standards and regulations, monitoring strategy and methodology, and toxicological effects
  • Transmits information so it is received and understood in the way it is intended
  • Constantly searches for and implements new ways of doing business better
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments
  • Listens actively and invites new ideas for exchanged opinions, then influences and acts to drive positive performance and achieve results
  • Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals
