Connolly Ranch Education Center based in Napa, California is a nationally recognized leader in farm-based
education, instilling a deep respect for the environment, a strong understanding of farming and sustainability,
and a love for the natural world. At Connolly Ranch, kids and families learn about farm life, the role of animals,
ecology, sustainability, and an appreciation for nature. We teach organic gardening, the sources and benefits
of healthy foods and knowledge of how nature works to sustain us. Connolly Ranch supports a diverse
community with more than 10,000 people visiting each year through field trips, family classes, events, early
childhood and grade school programs, high school internships, seasonal camps and open farm days.

Position Overview:
The Facilities Coordinator position is part of the Connolly Ranch Education Center farm and facilities team and
reports directly to the Executive Directors. The Facilities Coordinator is responsible for the overall day-to-day
upkeep and ongoing maintenance of the buildings and structures and outdoor classrooms that includes the
farm, garden and greenhouse and wildspaces.

Primary Responsibilities:
Facilities Maintain and improve the ranch facilities and utility systems in a safe, functional and attractive manner

consistent with organizational values and budget.
  • Responsible for the safe and responsible operation and maintenance of all utility systems includings: water

systems, plumbing, electrical, waste management and disposal systems including trash, recycling, and
green waste.

  • Maintain well and city water systems within the property, including sampling in accordance with County
regulations.
  • Responsible for all fire safety and abatement activities, including meeting County deadlines, and keeping
all fire systems up to date(i.e fire extinguishers, smoke and CO2 alarms).
  • Serves as a project lead and coordinator on major infrastructure upgrades and construction projects (i.e.
farm fence replacement, irrigation systems, and other permitted projects).
  • Follow and update as needed the facilities work plan and schedule.
  • Address and make needed repairs to deferred maintenance on the property.
  • Coordinate volunteers, student interns, and staff on facility projects and daily chores.
  • Responsible for submitting all supply and material orders needed for maintenance.
  • Setup and breakdown structures and areas for community and fundraising events.
  • Support the implementation of our carbon reduction plan.
Outdoor Classrooms - Farm, Garden, Wildspaces
  • Ensure all animal housing and enclosures are clean, safe and maintained for educational program
access and interaction.
  • Coordinate with the Lead Farm & Garden Educator to:
  • Maintain and repair animal housing, fences, pens and enclosures.
  • Maintain and repair garden beds, hose bibs, irrigation and hand washing stations.
  • Assist with animal feeding at least three days a week and occasionally on weekday evenings or
weekends
  • Implement a long term, sustainable grazing programming
  • Maintain spaces with the outdoor classroom
  • Ensure the outdoor classrooms are prepared for daily programs and special events as needed.
  • Maintain the farm-to-table outdoor kitchen.
  • Preserve wildspaces and hiking trails in a safe manner conducive to outdoor education and seasonal
changes.
  • Build new outdoor classrooms spaces in conjunction with the Co-Executive Directors and lead
educators.
  • Use and maintain all farm equipment, including a tractor, mower and RTV.

Education/Experience Required

  • High school diploma and 5-years demonstrated experience with carpentry, plumbing, electrical and other
facilities maintenance skills.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Commitment to Connolly Ranch’s mission, environmental education and sustainable farming.
  • Skilled carpenter with the ability to plan out and complete projects.
  • A highly motivated and independent worker who has the ability to take direction as well as to
independently problem solve and make decisions, as needed, and provide timely updates.
  • Extremely organized and ability to prioritize and coordinate projects.
  • Ability to operate and maintain farm machinery and landscape equipment.
  • Willingness to do what it takes to perform emergency repairs when needed.
  • Creativity and flexibility in finding and implementing solutions with facilities and maintenance challenges.
  • Flexibility to provide on-duty coverage on weekends and/or evenings as needed and arranged.
  • Ability to work closely and collaborate with a wide variety of people from educators to volunteers.
  • Comfortable working around children.
  • Excellent in-person and phone communications skills.
  • Desire to be part of a small team that embraces a can-do approach and attitude.
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to use Microsoft Office, Google Suite and Smartphone.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform strenuous outdoor tasks related to ranch maintenance and construction.
  • Clean DMV record and valid driver’s license required.
  • Successful completion of a background check and periodic screening.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work in all-weather elements.
  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis
  • Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds
Compensation: Salary DOE. Depending on hours per week, includes a comprehensive benefits package,
including paid vacation & holidays, health & dental benefits, and program discounts for your child’s
enrollment.
