Connolly Ranch Education Center based in Napa, California is a nationally recognized leader in
farm-based education, instilling a deep respect for the environment, a strong understanding of farming
and sustainability, and a love for the natural world. At Connolly Ranch, kids and families learn about farm
life, the role of animals, ecology, sustainability, and an appreciation for nature. We teach organic
gardening, the sources and benefits of healthy foods and knowledge of how nature works to sustain us.
Connolly Ranch supports a diverse community with more than 10,000 people visiting each year through
field trips, family classes, events, early childhood and grade school programs, highschool internships,
seasonal camps and open farm days.

Position Overview:
The Dual Language Outdoor Educator position is a key staff member within Connolly Ranch Education
Center and in particular to the dual language team and reports directly to the Lead Dual Language
Educator. The Dual Language Outdoor Educator is responsible for bringing the natural landscape and
animals to life through Connolly Ranch’s unique educational pedagogy, teaching in both English and
Spanish, and utilizing the outdoor classrooms that includes the farm, garden and greenhouse and
wildspaces. To be successful in this cross-functional educator role, the individual will be extremely
organized, have the ability to understand the organizations’ vision and have experience and strong
background in education.

Major Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning & Lesson Plan Development - 25%

  • Work closely with Lead Dual Language Educator to create and implement dual language
curriculum for children ages 3 to 10.
  • Work with the education team to evaluate curriculum to assess impact and alignment to our
mission statement.

In Program - 75%

  • Ensure the physical and emotional health, safety, and welfare of all participants.
  • Create a welcoming family environment and effectively communicate with families about their
children specifically and the program in general.
  • Design a weekly curriculum that aligns with CREC’s discovery-based pedagogy and follows the
Hourglass Model of Learning and Relationships and incorporates lessons in dual language.
  • Help design and set up varied and seasonal outdoor learning spaces and environments.
  • Plan for equipment and supply needs in collaborations with other staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings and special events as appropriate to ensure connection with the rest of

the staff and the community.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Ability to deliver high quality educational experiences in our outdoor classrooms, which includes
a strong desire to learn and teach about gardening and animal husbandry.
  • Ability to implement dual language curriculum into all programs (ages 3 to 10, and up to
highschool age students in the summer) and help children gain a deeper appreciation for
other cultures as well as their own.
  • Effective time management – prepares in advance and ready to deliver curriculum.
Adaptability as conditions change.
  • Effective collaboration in team environments and commitment to contributing talents to
achieving the organizational mission.
  • Willingness to take a leadership role in program development and quality improvement
efforts.
  • Progressively responsible experience at a non-profit agency is desirable but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as education, agriculture or environmental studies
preferred.
  • Excellent in-person and written communications skills.
  • Desire to be part of a small team that embraces a can-do approach and attitude.
Ability to receive and give constructive feedback .
  • Strong desire to work with children and be outdoors in all weather conditions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience working with children in an educational or child development setting.
  • Prior experience teaching in a Spanish speaking classroom or dual language environment.
  • Ability to support educational experiences with children that cultivates critical thinking,

communication, collaboration and creativity and to engage in, with and for nature

  • Consistent transportation
  • Able to pass a criminal background check.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to work in all weather elements.
  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis
  • Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing, and keeping
electronic curriculum records
  • Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally
