Connecting Communities in Action is Hiring a Family Development Specialist Near Olean, NY

Job Summary:

To work with at risk families involved with Child Protective Services by providing case management and linkage to supportive services. Work with Child Welfare Unit to provide alternate hour visitations to assess the safety of identified youth.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or relevant field (required)
  • 1 year experience in direct client casework.

Other Requirements & Skills:

Must have valid driver’s license, insurability, and reliable transportation.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and motivation to work independently and without direct supervision as well as in a team and with the general public.
  • Understanding of Trauma Informed Care and the ability to operate within an empathic, person-centered framework.
  • Must demonstrate understanding of and empathy with the low-income community and families with special needs and risks.
  • Must possess understanding of available human service resources.
  • Openness to learning new skills and technology as necessary; must participate in training as required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build referral networks with a variety of sources including but not limited to: Child Protective Services, Child Welfare, Department of Social Services and other service providers. Will accept, make, and document appropriate referrals with this network.
  • Administer the “Measure of My Family’s Well Being” or other deficit-risk assessment tools as necessary to determine participant’s areas of strength. Empower clients to build these strengths in their goal setting process.
  • Will provide peripheral services including budget development, financial literacy, life skills, transportation, and other services within CCA as well as to leverage other resources in the community.
  • Act as an advocate/mentor for participants and encourage strength-based activities.
  • Attend family court as necessary, documenting areas of achievement/need and/or risk areas.
  • Meet with the family to measure progress and provide feedback to participants on their progress.
  • Deliver approved parenting curriculum to families in the home as well as in a class.
  • Document progress notes in ORS/ OCFS Connections and if applicable other case management software and complete regular reports as required.
  • Provide alternate hour visitation to families identified through the Child Welfare System.
  • Act as a facilitator for service plan reviews for families identified through the Child Welfare System.
  • Responsible to complete the Family Assessment Service Plans within Connections.
  • Collaborate with other Resilient & Healthy Families Programs in implementing the mission and vision of the agency.
  • Demonstrates, promotes, and practices CCA’s mission and values.
  • Will be responsible to comply with all funding source regulations, for creating a safe environment, and to report any unsafe situations to the immediate supervisor.
  • Must be enthusiastic about promoting the mission of CCA; be willing to work towards the good of the entire agency, and to act as an ambassador of CCA throughout the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
