EDF Trading North America, LLC is part of the EDF Group, a global leader in low-carbon energies. Job Description: The Tax Director is be responsible for overseeing all aspects of US tax compliance, tax accounting, planning, and strategy for US operations. The position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and is pivotal in ensuring that the company remains in full compliance with all tax regulations while optimizing their tax position to support our business objectives. Responsibilities Tax Compliance: Own and manage all aspects of tax compliance, including the timely and accurate preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns including coordinating efforts with external tax providers including any multinational requirements for a US entity. Financial Reporting: Review and ensure accuracy of tax provision calculations. Coordinate with the finance team to understand ledger and ensure accurate tax accounting and reporting in financial statements and disclosures. Should be knowledgeable in IFRS accounting standards and have experience with reporting to multiple upstream stakeholders. Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and technical development opportunities to support their growth and success. Includes setting a vision for the tax department and ensuring priorities align with the broader business. Tax Research & Technical Expertise: Have a deep understanding of relevant tax technical topics for a foreign inbound company and stay updated on changes to tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the company, providing guidance to management on potential opportunities and risks. Tax Planning: Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize the company's tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations in coordination with our London and Paris offices. This is for all tax types including, but not limited to: income tax, property tax, withholding tax, and indirect taxes. Risk Management: Identify and assess tax-related risks to the company and develop strategies to mitigate these risks. Report risks through appropriate matrix structure. Industry Expertise: Understand the dynamics of a trading business. In particular, understand the tax regulations for power and gas markets across North America and how they intersect with global reporting requirements. Tax Audits and Disputes: Manage tax audits and disputes with tax authorities, working closely with external advisors and legal counsel as necessary to resolve issues effectively. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Understand the organizational structure and align with required stakeholders for maximum efficacy. Partner with various departments across the organization (domestic and foreign), including finance, legal, and operations, to provide tax support and advice on business initiatives and transactions. Transfer Pricing: Oversee transfer pricing policies and documentation to ensure compliance with global transfer pricing regulations and to support intercompany transactions. Global Workforce Planning: Understand and monitor globally mobile employee group to ensure corporate compliance with laws and regulations. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required. Masters of Tax or Accounting with Tax Emphasis preferred. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in tax to include federal, state and local tax types, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Extensive knowledge of US tax laws and regulations, including corporate taxation and international tax issues – UK and France knowledge preferred. Extensive experience with tax accounting, tax planning, compliance, and audit management. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax laws and regulations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Strategic mindset with the ability to think critically and provide proactive tax advice to support business objectives while willing to act tactically on day-to-day tasks if required. Prior experience in a global outsourcing or professional services environment preferred.
