Summary:

The Manager, Purchasing will coordinate and oversee the daily operation of the Purchasing Department ensuring that quality products are procured at a competitive price and received on a timely basis. The Manager, Purchasing is responsible for contract administration and the tracking of vendor contracts and will ensure that all approved purchase requests are processed in accordance with all department policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Identify, review and approve revisions to department policies and procedures.
  • Manage the Purchasing Department effectively.
  • Negotiate highly complex purchasing acquisitions.
  • Review and research expiring contracts and leases.
  • Review and prioritize departmental assignments.
  • Test system for upgrades and/or conversions.
  • Recommend cost-saving ideas.
  • Update all Purchasing-related milestones.
  • Recommend system enhancements designed to increase the department's overall productivity and efficiency.
  • Manage and coordinate the establishment of new vendor contracts, contract renewals, and contract terminations.
  • Generate Request for Proposal for major contracts as needed.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in the performance of purchasing responsibilities.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Effective written communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent negotiation skills required.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills essential.

Education & Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university preferred.
  • Three (3) or more years of purchasing management experience preferred.
