Confidential is Hiring a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) - Addiction Treatment Near Port Saint Lucie, FL

Seeking Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) for an Addiction Treatment Center to work a few days per week. Time commitment is 1-2 hours per day, flexible on days and times.

Must have experience in the Addiction Treatment and Substance Abuse Field.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides medical services and patient care to patients admitted to the addiction treatment facility and throughout the treatment continuum of care. The Family and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner supports and follows the policies, rules, and regulations of the facility as well as the standard State and Federal regulations.

Works effectively with the facility leadership team to ensure success of the facility by completing the following:

CORE JOB DUTIES:

  • Provides excellent medical care. This includes the ability to establish rapport, systematically gather data, determine the readiness of an individual for treatment and change and apply accepted criteria for diagnosis of substance use disorders.
  • Screen for co-occurring mental health issues.
  • Must have knowledge of medications, assessment for medication complications, detoxification protocols and prescribing medications in general.
  • Screen for Substance Use Disorders (SUD) including psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms.
  • Screen for danger to self or others with an evidenced based assessment tool—the Columbia Suicide Screening Rating Scale (CSSRS) and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Analyze and interpret data to determine treatment recommendations and priorities.
  • Screen for pain and understands treatment strategies for pain including pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic approaches. Strategies should reflect an individualized approach based on the individual’s current presentation, medical judgment and the risks and benefits associated with strategies, including potential risk of dependency, addiction, and abuse.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using the Kipu electronic health record with all required documentation, ensuring compliance with all company policies and procedures, state regulation, Joint Commission standards and Medical Needs Criteria. These records will be completed and authenticated in a timely manner per policy. This includes but is not limited to the following electronic record documents:
  • Psychiatric Evaluation
  • Physical Examinations
  • Medical Progress Notes
  • Medical Discharge Summaries
  • Medication and ancillary orders
  • Allergies
  • Diagnosis and updating diagnosis
  • Laboratory Date interpretation and documentation
  • Understands ASAM criteria and Medical Needs Criteria provided and will document decision making and treatment planning accordingly.
  • Understands the On-Call responsibilities: will provide contact and back-up numbers, being responsive and available when assigned on-call duties.
  • Demonstrates adherence to accepted ethical and behavioral standards of conduct.

With the Medical Director:

  • Develops cost-effective methods to provide medically necessary therapeutic services.
  • Assists in formulating and supporting the highest standards of patient care.
  • Supervises all level of care changes and providers peer reviews when required.
  • Understands and abides by all safety/risk, infection control and other guidelines as required.

LICENSURE/CERFICATION DESIRED:

  • Florida Licensed Nurse Practitioner with Psychiatric Certification.
  • Florida DEA to prescribe controlled medications and have had training on Buprenorphine Prescribing as outlined by the DEA. DEA-authorized prescribers will be required to demonstrate that they have completed at least eight (8) hours of educational training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have experience in addiction medicine and behavioral health.
  • Familiarity with ASAM/ ASAM Criteria and other indicated healthcare standards are necessary.
  • Communication skills to relate to all levels of facility staff. Self-motivated and confident.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the Principles and Practices of Addiction Medicine, including Detoxification and Medication Assisted Therapy.
  • Adheres to the NP Healthcare code of ethics.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission Standards.
  • Knowledge of HIPPA policies.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in communication and written skills.
  • Knowledge of State & Federal Statutes Regarding patient confidentiality, hospital regulations.
  • History working with Kipu electronic medical records and excellent communication & documentation skills.
  • Time management skills.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Proficiency in the timely completion of the History and Physical examination and the Comprehensive Psychiatric Assessment.
  • Must be able to type for documentation of patient care.
  • Ability to function as a team player and able to integrate other disciplines into the current treatment plan and patient care.
  • Demonstrate ability to handle any call situation while on call.
  • ASAM criteria, COWS and CIWAS scoring, Detoxification from Opiates, Benzodiazepines and Alcohol.
  • Screen for danger to self or others with an evidenced based assessment tool—the Columbia Suicide Screening Rating Scale (CSSRS) and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9).
  • Demonstrate proficiency and knowledge of medications, assessment for medication complications, and prescribing of medications.
