**Job Overview:**
We are seeking a skilled Director of Accounting to oversee our financial operations and ensure compliance with accounting regulations. Reporting to the Executive Director, the ideal candidate will lead the accounting team, manage financial reporting, and contribute to the strategic decision-making of a large nonprofit serving Butte County and surrounding areas.
To be successful in this role, the candidate must be a “builder” with an entrepreneurial spirit and a heart of gold. Patience and humor is a huge asset. This is a nonprofit that grew quickly beyond its infrastructure, so creating scalable (and painless!) processes and strengthening oversight will be key. This role is foundational with a potential transition into a Director of Finance position.
**Duties:**
- Manage all aspects of the accounting department including general ledger reconciliation, financial statement preparation, and AP/AR processes.
- Provide financial leadership by analyzing financial data, monitoring budgets, and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
- Oversee, coordinate and complete the transition to our new GL Suite with our systems consultant.
- Develop and implement scalable financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets.
-Leads the agency’s payer reimbursement strategy and revenue cycle activities including
negotiating payer contracts, reimbursement rates, contractual adjustments and collection activities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support cost management initiatives and optimize financial performance.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and provide insights for strategic planning.
- Conduct account analysis to identify variances and drive process improvements.
- Interpret financial reports to provide recommendations for business decisions.
- Perform grant reconciliations, and provide research and outcomes assistance to the Executive Director
**Skills:**
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field and a minimum of seven years of accounting/audit experience, and five years’ experience in managing an accounting department.
-Strong knowledge of GAAP, working with general ledger software, payroll law, records retention, tax filings, fiscal reports, bank reconciliation, and financial analysis
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and accounting/bill payment software systems. Sage Intaact knowledge is a huge plus.
- Must demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of developmentally disabled individuals and their families.
- Nonprofit experience strongly preferred
- Experience in AP/AR processes and account analysis.
- Demonstrated servant leadership skills with the ability to lead a team effectively.
- Patience and flexibility.
- Must pass a LiveScan backgrounds check, drug screen and TB test
- Must have reliable transportation
