The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and is responsible for supporting all aspects of the course's agronomy operations. The Assistant Superintendent will assist in all areas including turf conditions, irrigation management, all technical and cultural agronomy practices, including the employee experience where work quality and pride in ownership are front and center in all dealings.
The characteristics and key attributes of a successful Assistant Superintendent include goal orientation, initiative, vitality, ego strength, time competency plus honesty, straightforwardness, integrity, accountability, leadership and dedication. He/She must demonstrate superior interpersonal relations skills, be a good communicator, be administratively competent and be able to communicate the Club's vision, especially as it relates to agronomy programming.

General Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, the assistant directs and participates in the maintenance and construction of the golf course, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and ensuring that turf grass is repaired and maintained to established standards. Also, he/she may serve in the Superintendent's absence.
Essential Duties:
¨ Delivers and promotes prompt, courteous and friendly service to all members, guests and employee.
¨ Works with the Superintendent to ensure that the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans are maintained and followed.
¨ Motives and assists maintenance staff in daily duties.
¨ Assists in the planning, organizing and direction of the maintenance and construction of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers.
¨ Supervises the planting and cultural practices involved in growing various turf grasses, trees and ornamental plants.
¨ Ensures that construction equipment is properly maintained.
¨ Supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment.
¨ Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps and irrigation and drainage items.
¨ Assists in the procurement of supplies and materials and ensures costs remain within budgetary limitations.
¨ Keeps records of annual maintenance activities and costs and assists with the preparation of required prepares reports.
¨ Follows sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors, when possible.
¨ Reconciles and provides timely coding of all invoices, payroll and other required documents.
¨ Ensures all company policies and procedures are followed including compliance with government regulations.
¨ Ensures associates obtain proper license needed to perform job tasks safely and within city, state, and federal regulations. Addresses directly all real or perceived environmental concerns.
¨ Manages department members that may include, but is not limited to: Mechanic, Environmental Technician, Equipment Operator, Foreman, Greenskeeper, and Irrigation Technician.
¨ Assures that effective orientation and training are given to each new associate. Develops ongoing training programs.
¨ Monitors business volume forecast and plans accordingly in areas of manpower, productivity, costs and other expenses.
¨ Regular and reliable attendance.
¨ Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
Education: High School Diploma required. A higher education degree in turf management, agronomy, or horticulture is preferred. Must obtain any required local and state licenses or certifications
Experience: Previous maintenance experience in golf operations is required. A minimum of two years’ experience in the golf industry. Knowledge of maintaining golf course tees, fairways, and greens (seeding, planting, cultivating, pruning, fertilizing, herbicides, irrigation).
Physical Demands:
Regularly stands, walks and sits. Regularly uses hands, reaches with arms and hands, talks or hears. Occasionally climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, tastes or smells. Regularly lifts up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts up to 100 pounds.
Environment/Noise:
Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, fumes and/or airborne particles. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions. Noise level is moderate.
