Job Description

Overview

Assesses, plans, implements, documents, organizes, prioritizes, and coordinates the care of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients according to treatment protocols, guidelines and procedures in accordance with North Carolina College of Emergency Physicians protocols set forth by the N.C. Office of EMS.

Responsibilities

Works with the Registered Nurse to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care based on protocols, procedures, policies, and provider orders. Demonstrates advanced competencies and critical thinking skills in day-to-day practice. CareLink Paramedics are expected to exercise considerable independent judgment in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Paramedic-level patient care based on transport treatment protocols, procedures and policies.--------------------------------------------------Demonstrates a high level of teamwork with other members of the team. Contributes to a supportive and healthy work environment. Holds self and others accountable for complying with policies, procedures, and standards. Participates in learning needs assessments. Provides input into and supports the precepting and mentoring process. Delegates appropriate tasks to support staff, ensure completion of delegated tasks and provides feedback as needed. Demonstrates team spirit and collegiality. Supervises select personnel in performance/patient care.--------------------------------------------------Supports an environment of evidence-based practice/research/quality improvement. Demonstrates knowledge of Shared Governance accountabilities and principles, supports document shared governance council directly as a council member or indirectly by keeping informed of council activities/supporting council decisions, and brings forth issues to council. Demonstrates knowledge of how to access online resources containing policies, procedures, standards, and additional resources. Participates in QI/EBP/Research activities to support departmental goals and initiates. Demonstrates understanding of resources management and implements opportunities. Collects QI/EBP/Research data and participates in analysis and action plan development, and incorporates change into practice. Participates in ongoing activities to meet and adhere to regulatory standards (TJC, DFS, OSHA, OEMS). --------------------------------------------------Establishes a caring and therapeutic healthcare team/patient/significant other relationships. Recognizes communication barriers, identifies resources and establishes plans to resolve barriers to communication. Demonstrates respect for diversity and cultural differences in patient/significant others related to age, ethnicity, gender, religion, socioeconomics, education, personality, or other unique variables. Advocate for the patient/significant other. Demonstrates skillful responses to customer needs based on particular context of the situation. --------------------------------------------------Demonstrates effective conflict resolution/negotiation skills. Promotes positive, supportive, and professional work environment free of disruptive behavior. Practices, in all professional relationships, with compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth and uniqueness of every individual. Follows Chain of Command for assistance with issues related to unresolved/problem-solving and/or conflict resolution. Provides, seeks, and receives constructive feedback. Qualifications

EDUCATION:REQUIRED:High School Diploma or equivalentPREFERRED:Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Medical Science or health-related field EXPERIENCE:REQUIRED:CareLink Paramedic: Minimum 3 years EMS paramedic level or critical care transport experience for benefited position and 5 years of EMS paramedic level experience and 1 year of critical care transport experience for relief paramedics.ED Paramedic: Minimum of 2 years of experience within the last 5 years or 1 year paramedic experience within the last 5 years with an Associate Degree or national certification.Paramedic III or Critical Care Paramedic: Must meet and maintain annual requirements per the Professional Paramedic Advancement Program.PREFERRED:CareLink Paramedic: Prior critical care transport experience LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:REQUIRED:BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare ProviderACLS | Advanced Cardiovascular Life SupportED & CareLink Paramedic:Current valid NC EMT-Paramedic certification, verified through EMS Performance Improvement Center - ContinuumCareLink Paramedic only: Valid, licensed driver for a minimum of 5 years and hold a current valid driver's license with good driving history. MVR must be approved by Risk Management. Must complete Emergency Vehicle driving course if not already done.PREFERRED:PALS, TNCC or PHTLS or ITLS or TPATC, ENPC or PITLS, and NRPNational certification by International Board of Specialty Certification in FP-C or CCP-C
