Assists professional technical staff and leads Jr. technicians in welding tasks and research. Performs highly skilled GTA (Gas Tungsten Arc) aluminum welding, assists in component design and development, performs weld testing (VT and PT) and aids in manufacturing process improvements to enhance CTC's operating efficiency and effectiveness of the staff and to achieve contractual requirements.

Responsibilities:

1. Ability analyzing technical drawings packages & welding specifications to include AWS D1.1, D1.2 and D17.3 (FSW) and produce final welded product to these requirements.

2. Ability to lead Jr. Technicians in the above and develop their welding skills.

3. Perform highly skilled GTA aluminum welding (AC and DC electrode negative) on a variety alloys, joints and thicknesses.

4. Ability to complete written welding inspections and record results.

5. The ability generating comprehensive nonconformance reports allowing the Material Review Board to understand the non-conformances without the need for further clarification.

6. Perform all duties while maintaining compliance with all regulatory, quality system and safety requirements and the ability to communicate in a professional manner.

7. Willingness to learn and perform additional responsibilities as appropriate or as requested.

Physical and Mental Demands:

1. Regularly or frequently talking, hearing, touching, grasping, standing, walking, reaching with hands/arms and performing repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement.

2. Light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force.

3. Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, three-dimensional vision, ability to identify and distinguish colors, and ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus to review test results.

4. Intermediate to advanced math skills to deal with mathematical relationships, algebra, geometry, and shop math (i.e., fractions, percentages, proportions, etc.)

5. Intermediate reading and writing skills.

Work Environment:

1. This position is in a climate-controlled environment and is safety and security sensitive.

2. Moderate noise level.

3. Frequently works near fumes or airborne particles. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

1. High school diploma plus additional technical coursework required.

2. Considerable directly related technical work experience.

3. Skill in using a variety of hand standard tools and welding shop equipment.
