Overview:
As the Controller for our construction company specializing in concrete and general carpentry, you will play a crucial role in managing financial activities, ensuring fiscal responsibility, and contributing to the overall financial health of the organization. This position requires a deep understanding of construction accounting principles, project financial management, and a keen eye for detail.
Responsibilities:
1. Financial Management:
- Oversee all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Implement and maintain effective financial controls and procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
2. Project Accounting:
- Collaborate with project managers to track project costs, revenue recognition, and overall financial performance.
- Monitor project budgets and provide regular reports to management, identifying areas for improvement or cost-saving opportunities.
3. **Cash Flow Management:**
- Manage cash flow to ensure the company's liquidity needs are met.
- Forecast cash requirements and coordinate with project managers to optimize project-related cash flow.
4. Cost Analysis:
- Conduct cost analysis on construction projects, identifying areas of cost overruns or potential savings.
- Work with project teams to implement cost-control measures and improve profitability.
5. Financial Reporting:
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
6. Compliance and Auditing:
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and other financial requirements.
- Coordinate with external auditors to facilitate annual audits.
7. Vendor and Subcontractor Management:
- Collaborate with procurement and project management teams to manage vendor relationships and negotiate favorable terms.
- Review subcontractor agreements and ensure compliance with financial terms.
8. Risk Management:
- Identify financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation is a plus.
- Proven experience in a similar role within the construction industry, with a focus on concrete and carpentry projects.
- In-depth knowledge of construction accounting principles and familiarity with industry-specific software (e.g., Procore, Sage).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
