Concerned Black Men of America is Hiring a Development Officer Near Washington, DC

Location Washington, DC Types of Employment Part-time Program Duration Contract Dates Contract-hire Description

Concerned Black Men National (CBM), a national youth services organization, seeks a stable development executive for the position of Development Officer. The Development Officer will work directly with the Executive Director as CBM's sole development and fundraising professional, and will lead the organization in its fundraising, event planning, and grant-writing efforts. This is a part time contractual position at 20 hours per week.

The successful Development Officer candidate will have the following experience:

  • Prior development or fundraising experience in the nonprofit field;
  • Prior fundraising experience in the corporate, foundation and private sectors.
  • Investigate and develop new business opportunities for the organization via existing services and offerings
  • Significant experience in writing grants on behalf of agencies serving youth and families residing in underserved communities;
  • Strong writing and planning skills; you must be able to write very well;
  • Experience in applying for governmental grants;
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations
  • Relationships in the foundation and business community;
  • Developing and tracking proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors
  • Creating and executing a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors
  • The ability to meet deadlines under pressure.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will posses the following qualifications:

  • 4-year degree
  • Fluent English
  • Proven track record of development success in a nonprofit environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Presentation)
  • Established relationships with foundation, corporate giving and private sector professionals
  • Experience in donor retention and acquisition strategies
  • Prior experience writing and winning government, foundation and corporation grants
  • Familiarity with accepted fundraising and sales software
