Con Edison Company of New York is Hiring a Project Specialist Near Bronx, NY

Core Responsibilities

  • Field observations and inspections related to welding activities including oversight of contractor CWI and NDE Level II inspectors.
  • Will work independently, maintain confidentiality and place a high significance on personal accountability. Promote a positive work ethic that supports our Corporate Values and Mission Statement of Con Edison.
  • Conduct inspections in the field of gas construction work to verify the quality of welding workmanship and compliance with specifications, procedures, and regulations.
  • Respond to field emergencies and incidents of various types and be proficient in assisting the operating areas in ensuring corporate policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance concerning welding policies and procedures.
  • Emphasize professionalism, honesty, concern, excellence, and teamwork within the department.
  • Participate in compliance committees, procedure development committees, and training reviews.
  • Knowledge of the contractor oversight system.
  • Mentor and assist with training less experienced employees in the group to develop proficiency in inspections and reporting.
  • Maintain any welding related certifications/licenses.
  • Perform Contractor Field Observations (CFOR) and Job Site Safety Exchanges (JSSE) as needed.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years full time related work experience. or
  • Associate's Degree and 5 years full time related work experience or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 10 years full time related work experience.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree

Relevant Work Experience

  • Must possess 3-5 years working knowledge of construction and gas work practices. Required
  • Must have 3-5 years' experience in Gas Operations, Engineering, Construction Management, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Welding, or related fields. Required
  • Must identify and process procedural and mechanical errors in the field. Required
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills. Required
  • Must be able to build rapport, develop a working relationship, and influence employees at all company levels. Required
  • Must have computer skills in Microsoft Office, database management, and knowledge of electronic reporting systems. Required
  • Must possess 3-5 years working knowledge of processes and procedures in Gas Operations, including, but not limited to, welding, specification compliance, and operator qualification. Required
  • Current welding certifications - Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), ASNT Level I or II NDE (Non Destructive Examiner) or other related certifications. Preferred

Physical Demands

  • Ability to respond to system emergencies
  • Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
  • Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
  • Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
  • Ability to climb in and out of manholes and excavations
  • Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
  • Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
  • Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory as needed.
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends and off hours when requested.
  • Must be able and willing to respond to incidents and emergencies as necessary.
