Description

Comunilife Inc. is looking for a Food Handler for its Congregate Residential program in the Bronx, Safe Haven II. The Food Handler is responsible for the receiving, storing, serving food to residents and maintaining a clean environment for a congregate housing facility for homeless individuals who may be living with mental illness and/or substance abuse. Required to cover meals and snacks. Other responsibilities include working harmoniously with Comunilife Program staff in accordance with Comunilife principles and guidelines. Reports to the Assistant Program Director or other designee. This position is eligible to participate in Comunilife's generous benefits and paid time off package.
Essential Duties:
  • Ensures the safe handling of food and its required temperature; both hot and cold.
  • Bring food and other supplies to serving areas.
  • Take out milk from refrigerator for distribution to our residents.
  • Serve residents’ meals in accordance with scheduled meal periods.
  • Prepare cup of desserts for our residents.
  • Set and wait on tables and assist residents, as needed.
  • Clean dining room(s) and service areas, including equipment, tables, chairs, etc.
  • Prepare and provide snacks for residents, as scheduled.
  • Collect and dispose of trash and garbage, after each meal.
  • Maintain inventory and requisition of supplies and utensils, as needed
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned by Assistant Program Director

Qualifications


Education and Experience Requirement(s)

Minimum requirements include Qualifying Certificate in Food Protection, given by The City of NY, DOH 15 hour training course in Food Protection. Prefer a High School/GED diploma with at least one year of experience in food handling, or healthcare field. Experience with homeless individuals living with mental illness and/or substance abuse, a plus. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
