You have the opportunity to help provide exceptional patient care at our retail pharmacy called Champion Pharmacy, located inside Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center in Alamogordo, NM.

Position Summary:

Assist the pharmacist in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory and maintenance of records to ensure effective patient care. Works only under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.

Pharmacy Operating Hours: 

• Monday – Friday / 8am – 6pm
• Saturday and Sunday / 10am - 4pm

Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center has served the communities for over 67 years providing excellence in healthcare services. GCRMC is an acute care medical center with additional licenses for 12 inpatient rehab beds and 38 psychiatric beds. The medical center is a non profit accredited by DNV. 

What You Will Do

• Learn medical and pharmaceutical terminology, symbols and abbreviations used in the practice of pharmacy and components of a prescription
• Train on pharmaceutical calculations necessary for the preparation and dispensing of drug products
• Assist manufacturing, preparation, packaging, labeling and proper storage of drug products.
• Learn dosage forms and routes of administration
• Review trade and generic names for medications frequently dispensed by the pharmacy
• Answers the telephone, identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel.
• Enters charges and credits for patient medications accurately
• Verify patient insurance; process claims accordingly
• Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date
• Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs
• Demonstrates good verbal and written communication

What You Will Need 

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Register and obtain Non-Certified Pharmacy Technician registration in the State of New Mexico 
• Obtain National Pharmacy Technician Certification within one year of registration date
• Become licensed as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in the State of New Mexico within one year of registration date
• Successful completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician training course preferred
