Community Youth Services is Hiring a Family Services Clinician Near Olympia, WA

Community Youth Services’ Family Services department is growing! CYS is seeking experienced clinicians to work in partnership with families of children at risk for out of home placement. Our Masters-level Clinicians work non-traditional schedules and enjoy independence and strong clinical support. Family Services believes in maintaining a strengths-based approach and utilizing motivational interviewing strategies to deliver highly-effective, community-based interventions. Our clinicians are ethical, adaptable, collaborative, creative, organized and dependable. Clinicians are needed in Thurston, Mason and Lewis Counties. RATES:

  • Face to Face Services / $40 per hour
  • Clinicians with full DOH Licensure / $45 per hour
  • Documentation / $20 per hour
  • Monthly Clinical Meetings / $20 per hour
  • Consultation - Collateral Contacts / $20 per hour
  • Travel / $15 per hour

Position Description:

This independent contractor will provide up to three months of home, school and community based services to each referred family who has been identified as “at risk” for child abuse and neglect by Washington State Children’s Protection Services. Services provided to families may include: parenting skills development, meeting basic needs, clinical interventions for individuals, families and couples, brief therapy and school-based support. Desired outcomes include: improved child safety and well-being, connecting families to community and natural supports, improved parenting skills, decreased referrals to CPS, reducing risk factors as identified by CPS and by the family, preventing out-of-home placements and ameliorating current crises within each family.

Required Position Qualifications:

  1. Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or related field plus one year experience providing supportive services to families.
  2. Must be credentialed in at least one of the following in Washington State: *Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC); *Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA); *Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT); Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFTA); *Licensed Advanced or Independent Clinical Social Worker (LASW, LICSW); *Licensed Advanced or Independent Clinical Social Worker Associate (LASWA, LICSWA).
  3. Must possess a high level of self-initiation, efficiency, organization skills and the ability to meet mandatory deadlines.
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office with the technical skills to efficiently use MS Word and Outlook, Electronic Health Records, the internet and the intranet is also required.
  5. Ability to be available to families during crises including weekends and after traditional work hours.
  6. Experience writing clinical documentation, case notes, as well as treatment, service and discharge plans.
  7. Experience working within multiple systems including: Juvenile Justice, mental health, community and natural supports for families, schools, the Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS), etc.
  8. Experience with and understanding of the legal system related to children and families including: dependency orders, juvenile court procedures, and DCFS procedures.

Agency Qualifications:

  1. The ability to pass an extensive background check with no history of conviction or perpetration of child abuse or physical harm to a child or children or an individual aged 18 years and above who is or may be unable to take care of themselves, or is unable to protect themselves against harm or exploitation by reason of age, illness, trauma or disability, or any other reason.
  2. Professional and personal conduct that maintains a personal and professional background so that criminal history remains free from unlawful conduct. Certain crimes may disqualify employees to have unrestricted access to children or vulnerable populations in accordance with Department of Social Health and Services policy and Washington State law. Professional or personal conduct that causes this clearance to be suspended or denied will result in suspension and/or termination of employment. (Pursuant to RCW 43.43.832, 43.43.832(7), 43.43.834, 43.20A.710 and WAC 388-06.).
  3. A valid Washington State Driver License with a minimum of five years’ driving experience and a three-year good driving record evidenced on a Washington driver’s abstract. The ability to pass and maintain a clean driving records check at employment and annually. Professional or personal conduct that results in a restricted or denied driving status could result in termination of employment. (Candidates relocating to the area must provide current proof of three-year driving record from current state; and have ten days from date of employment to provide a copy of a Washington Driver’s License and Washington driver’s abstract.)
  4. Proof of personal auto insurance levels provided on your insurance declaration page. Coverage must be current, and copies provided to HR at renewal. Coverages at or above $100,000 combined single limit is required for positions that require driving and is recommended and preferred for positions that have occasional driving.
  5. A sensitivity and responsiveness to the cultural differences in the organization's employment and service population.
  6. Must possess or obtain within 30 days of employment CPR/1st Aid/Bloodborne Pathogen certification. Some positions require CPR before a first shift.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team.

Program Responsibilities

  1. Provides up to three months of parenting skills development, meeting basic needs, clinical interventions for individuals, families and/or couples, brief therapy, school-based support and case management services to families who are referred to Community Youth Services by Washington State’s Children’s Protective Services.
  2. Services provided are home, school and community based therapy and support services to referred families utilizing solution focused and strength based counseling approaches.
  3. Provides services based upon each family’s schedule and convenience.
  4. Provides family assessments that include the following domains: environment, parental capabilities, family interactions, family safety, and child wellbeing.
  5. Assures that families develop community and natural supports.
  6. Maintains consistent communication with each family’s assigned Washington State Division of Children and Families social worker.
  7. Maintains clinical documentation as required by contract including: case notes, incident reports, monthly reports and CANS-F assessments.
  8. Assures improved functioning in the following domains for each family: family functioning, parenting skills, child safety, child wellbeing, family safety and environment.
  9. Assures that resources for each case are utilized according to contracts.
  10. Maintains monthly fiscal documentation.
  11. Participates in clinical team meetings, supervision and trainings.
  12. Maintains current Washington State counseling credentials, in good standing.
  13. Maintains ongoing consultation, communication and collaboration with CYS’ Family Services Director.
