Conducts Functional Behavior Assessments and designs and implements Behavior Support Plans for those receiving services in Residential, Habilitation and/or Respite Programs. Measures outcomes of plans and revises as needed to ensure effectiveness. Provides Intensive Behavior Services (IBS) as assigned. Behavior support plans or services which include restrictive/intrusive interventions may be developed by a Level 1 or a Level 2 BIS under the supervision of a licensed psychologist or licensed clinical social worker (LCSW).

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitors each individual’s clinical status and treatment response.
• Provides general systemic and/or behavior interventions to assigned sites.
• Conducts Functional Behavior Assessments. Designs and implements Behavior Support Plans for individuals who receive services in their assigned programs.
• Assists in identifying needs for further assessment. Researches, identifies, and administers clinical tools and testing for assessing needs and diagnosis. Ensures assessments maintain best practices and professional standards.
• Provides training to those responsible for implementing Behavior Support Plans including Residential management, Residential staff, other team members, and involved family members as needed, monitors follow-through. Provides additional training as assigned.
• Provides clinical mentoring and training of Behavior Technicians.
• Maintains required records including case notes, assessments and behavior support plans for individuals receiving services in the assigned programs.
• Maintains contact with individuals, Site Managers, Program Staff and involved family members to ensure that the needs of each individual are met in a consistent, ethical and effective manner.
• Attends site-specific meetings as needed to maximize effectiveness of multidisciplinary approach to program services.
• Attends Life Plan/ISP meetings and participates as an active team member in person-centered planning.
• Acts as a clinical liaison with involved psychiatrists, psychologists, or other mental health professionals
• Meets with the Consultant Psychologist to discuss oversight, status and needs of Intensive Behavior Services cases or Behavior Plans employing restrictive interventions.
• Identifies capacity of their caseload to determine when additional IB Services provider(s) is needed to serve cases referred. Coordinates with Consulting Psychologist and agency approved IB Service providers to initiate services.
• Provide crisis intervention support services to individuals as well as staff.
• Assists in the risk management process for individuals receiving services in their assigned programs.
• Attends ISP meetings and participates as an active team member in person-centered planning.
• Presents Behavior Plans to the necessary Committees for approval as needed.
• Completes other duties as assigned by the Behavior Services Coordinator, in their absence the Director of Behavior and Case Management Services.
• Participates in DDAWNY Behavioral Support Committee Activities.

Education and Experience:

• BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SPECIALIST LEVEL I
• Must possess a Master’s Degree or higher from a program in a clinical and/or treatment field of psychology and
• Have had documented training in assessment techniques and behavioral support plan development and;
• Have had at least 5 years’ experience working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities, including the devising, implementation and monitoring of behavior support plans; and/or providing supervision and training to others in the implementation of behavior support plans.
• Qualifications must be reviewed by DDSO.
• Significant knowledge and experience in serving individuals with challenging behaviors and or dual diagnosis preferred.
• Experience in clinical assessment, intervention planning and implementation, and follow-up care.
• Experience in providing clinical counseling services
• BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SPECIALIST LEVEL II
• Must possess National Board Certification in behavior analysis (BCBA) and have a Master’s degree in behavior analysis, or a field closely related to clinical or community psychology which is approved by OPWDD review; Master’s degree in a clinical or a treatment field in psychology, social work, school psychology or a related field; ora New York State license in Mental Health Counseling; and
• Have or obtain OPWDD-approved specialized training or experience in assessment techniques and behavioral support plan development; and
• Have provided behavioral services for an agency in the OPWDD system continuously since December 31, 2012; or
• Master’s degree in a clinical or treatment field in psychology, social work, school psychology or a related human services field; andfunction in the Psychologist I or Psychologist II Civil Services titles of New York State.
• Significant knowledge and experience in serving individuals with challenging behaviors and or dual diagnosis preferred.
• Experience in clinical assessment, intervention planning and implementation, and follow-up care.
• Experience in providing clinical counseling services
• Personal vehicle for work purposes including traveling between work sites.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

• Good written and oral communication skills, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Ability to self-initiate and be timely and prompt in performing tasks, as well as demonstrates the ability to exercise independent judgment and to meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of person centered planning and approaches.
• Basic computer knowledge and database management skills.

Certifications:

• CPR/First Aid certified.
• Full SCIP-R certified and certified to be SCIP-R instructor..
• Physical and Mental Requirements:
• Seeing, hearing, walking, sitting, standing, stooping, stretching and driving as well as the ability to perform all required movements required by the SCIP-R curriculum.
• Exercising independent judgment, concentrating, thinking, communicating, interacting with others, managing multiple tasks and coping with stressful situations and deadlines.
• The position may include lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
• Staying awake and alert while on duty.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Will usually work normal business hours.
• Local travel required 25% to 50% of time.
