EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology/Education
  • 30 Post-Graduate Hours in School Psychology
  • Certification as School Psychologist
  • Experience working with the psychological and educational aspects of PK-12 students.

DUTY DAYS: 183-day contract

STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The purpose of the School Psychologist position is to assess students’ abilities to devise the best instructional strategies for academic success.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete skills assessments and utilize this information to help teachers better determine student needs and appropriate educational interventions within the Rtl process. Complete preschool screenings when requested.
  • Participate in referral meetings for students being referred to the Psychological Services Department.
  • Review referral information, permanent records, and other pertinent materials to determine appropriate evaluation procedures and accurate student needs.
  • Coordinate the gathering of information to conduct the psycho-educational evaluation in a timely manner to ensure compliance and complete evaluations for students referred for an evaluation/re-evaluation.
  • Prepare complete psycho-educational evaluation reports addressing all concerns noted in the referral.
  • Participate in meetings of the Case Conference Committee to interpret evaluation results and assist the Committee in determining the educational program needed to address the student's school success needs.
  • Ensure compliance with the requirements of P.L. 101-476, P.L. 99-457, Article 7, and another applicable state/federal regulations in all Case Conference procedures.
  • Be available to provide consultation related to the students referred for an evaluation or enrolled in special education as requested by school personnel and parents.
  • Provide consultation and/or in-service training for school personnel and parents to increase their understanding of special education programs, special education student needs, and available school and community services.
  • Keep abreast of current trends and issues, testing procedures and materials, and relevant legislation/litigation through professional reading, attendance at workshops or other professional conferences, and/or participation in professional organizations.
  • Serve as a resource person with regard to services which are available through Southern Hancock Schools, other professionals, and community agencies.
  • Complete annual employee training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by designee.

  • Requires the ability to sit up to 8 hours per day with intermittent occasional walking, standing, bending, and squatting.
  • Requires the ability perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading.
  • Occasionally required to lift or carry supplies, textbooks, furniture, and equipment at a minimum of 35 pounds.

  • Standard office and school conditions - Moderate noise level in the work environment, adequate lighting, and comfortable temperatures.
