Job Summary:

The Shelter Diversion Specialist provides centralized assessment services for housing and homeless prevention aimed at diverting households from the emergency shelter system. The position is a component of Community Partnership’s One Door Coordinated Entry System program and is located at the O’Reilly Center for Hope.

Evaluation:

Following adopted policies and practices of Community Partnership of the Ozarks, the O’Reilly Center for Hope Homeless Services Coordinator will evaluate the Shelter Diversion Specialist.

Reporting Structure:

The Shelter Diversion Specialist will report to the O’Reilly Center for Hope Homeless Services Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meets with clients in person and over the phone to complete Coordinated Entry System intake assessment and determine client needs
  • Engages clients in problem-solving dialogue to assess for additional resources a client may be able to access within their network
  • Makes appropriate referrals based on client's needs and each program's unique criteria
  • Enters, updates, and maintains data in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), adhering to local and Federal technical standards
  • Maintains contact with partner agencies to grow knowledge of resources available within the community
  • Provides crisis intervention assistance as needed
  • Tracks and reports services and related activities as mandated by program and funding guidelines
  • Advocates for clients’ needs
  • Participates in CPO’s resource development/fundraising activities
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degre in Social Work or other related field is required
  • Proven written and oral communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Internet
  • Must be comfortable working with diverse populations, including high risk and homeless households
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills

Position Clarification:

The position of Shelter Diversion Specialist is a grant-funded position and is based upon funding availability. This is a non-exempt, full-time position. Grant funding dictates the pay range for this position. CPO receives federal grants and contracts and therefore must comply with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988. Marijuana is considered an illegal drug under federal law, with no exception for medicinal use and is not protected under ADA. Community Partnership of the Ozarks is an Equal Opportunity Employer
