SUMMARY: North Central Family Medical Center is a non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) providing affordable, accessible healthcare and pharmacy services to patients of all ages with locations in Rock Hill and Chester. Under the general guidance of the physicians/providers performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasonographic procedures. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements
  • Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of treatment; answering questions
  • Monitors patients throughout procedures and ensure patient comfort and safety for the duration of their appointment
  • Prepares patient for ultrasound testing by positioning patient; adjusting immobilization devices; moving equipment into specified position; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; following drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs, such as contrast media, administering first aid, and using the emergency cart
  • Uses special equipment to direct non-ionizing, high frequency sound waves into areas of the patient’s body.
  • Operates equipment, which collects reflected echoes and forms an image that may be videotaped, transmitted or photographed for interpretation and diagnosis.
  • Ensures operation of ultrasound equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques
  • Notify supervisor of any issues with or malfunctions of equipment
  • Maintains ultrasound supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Maintains production and quality of ultrasounds by following established standards and procedures; observing ultrasound results; making necessary adjustments
  • Uses independent judgment in recognizing the need to extend the scope of a procedure according to diagnostic findings
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Perform front office or medical assisting duties as needed
  • Assist with lab tests and patient care exams
  • Assist with patient check-in
  • Assist as medical chaperone to ensure patient and provider comfort, safety, privacy, and security during Women’s Health exams

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography minimum preferred. Must possess or obtain within 6 months of employment valid ARDMS, ARRT and/or CCI certification. 2 years’ experience in a clinical care setting as diagnostic medical sonographer required.
