Job Summary:

The Behavioral Health Clinician is responsible to conduct assessments, treatment planning, provide therapy, develop behavioral treatment plans, and provide ongoing monitoring for adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position will be a member of the psychiatric clinic team and will provide in-person therapy services to people utilizing the CLS Psychiatric Clinic in order to compliment psychiatric services. This position includes presentation to the CLS Behavior Treatment Plan Review Committee (BTPRC) and follow up for people served as needed.

Reporting Relationship: Clinical Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical services to adults and children receiving services in accordance with their IPOS authorization. This could include behavior treatment planning, staff/family training, monitoring, therapy etc.
  • Provide ongoing clinical recommendations to determine the need for clinical support and services. Provides clinical consultation and suggestions surrounding the characteristics of illness, disabling conditions and wellness that directly or indirectly impact the person’s state of physical or mental health and continuing care.
  • Write and develop positive behavior support plans. Ensure all paid supports are trained on the positive behavior support plan.
  • Work with the psychiatric clinic staff and provide therapy services, and positive behavior support plans for the individuals that receive services at the psychiatric clinic.
  • Provide emergency crisis support as needed.
  • Ensure that all evaluations and follow up service documentation, for both direct and indirect services, is submitted in a timely manner (within 48 hours of service provision) and meets MDHHS and CLS quality standards.
  • Provide clinical support and consultation as needed/requested to ensure service delivery for children and adults supported by CLS. This includes those on the Children’s Waiver, Autism Waiver, HAB Waiver, and traditional mental health specialty services.
  • Participate in the BTPRC review process for people served as needed.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedure related to psychological service delivery.
  • Participate in relevant trainings/conferences, and internal and external meetings and committees.
  • Conduct training/presentations to other CLS staff and community partners/stakeholders as needed or requested.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with other public and private agencies and business partners such as Physicians, Psychiatrists, Support Coordinators, Independent Support Coordinators, Health Plans, DWIHN, OCHN, N180, MCCMH, Ottawa CMH, and any other funders, residential provider organizations, etc.
  • Research and identify service needs, develop, mobilize, and coordinate both public and private resources in effort to expand service delivery options for individuals supported by CLS.
  • Remain abreast of CLS’ strategic direction and emerging industry practices, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Conducts psychological evaluations, if within clinician scope of practice, to determine eligibility for CLS services.
  • Conducts psychological testing, if within clinician scope of practice, for submission with guardianship documents for court proceedings.
  • Completes a minimum of 24 hours of professional skill development activity each year, in addition to funder training requirements.
  • Is available for consultation regarding urgent needs, including outside of routine business hours.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by the Clinical Manager.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education:
Master’s degree in Social Work with LMSW credential with the State of Michigan or Master’s degree in Psychology with LLP credential with the State of Michigan.
Experience:
Minimum of two years of experience as a professional level employee serving persons with developmental disabilities, mental illness, co-occurring, or related conditions. At least one year’s experience working with children or adults who have developmental disabilities preferred. Qualified to conduct psychological evaluations and testing to determine eligibility and to assist with guardian petitions, if within scope of practice. Experience within Michigan’s mental health system preferred.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build and maintain positive internal and external partnerships. Strong organization, time management and analytical skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities while meeting critical targets and deadlines. Ability to work independently. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including occasional evening and weekend hours, if needed for urgent matters.
TRAVEL:
Scheduled and non-scheduled travel is required in executing essential duties and responsibilities of this position. Employees must provide their own transportation. Maintenance of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and vehicle registration and insurance in compliance with State of Michigan requirements are all continuing conditions of employment. If driving a vehicle other than the one listed on file with the Human Resources Department, employee is responsible for ensuring that the vehicle is registered, insured, and meets all other State of Michigan motor vehicle requirements and providing documentation as requested. Use of an alternative driver is prohibited.
TRAINING:
On the job training will be provided or coordinated by the Clinical Manager.
