Description Function: Under the leadership of the Production Supervisor, the Cook is responsible for supporting and assisting the team in all aspects of food production and service at the Caridad Community Kitchen (CCK) for the Community Food Bank (CFB). The Cook is a working member of the CCK team and actively participates in all food production, kitchen safety and sanitation.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Prepares and cooks a variety of dishes, according to established standardized recipes and specifications.
- Proficiency in all cooking techniques and culinary math.
- Mentors Prep Cooks, providing guidance and support in food preparation techniques and kitchen procedures.
- Monitors food quality and presentation to ensure dishes meet standards for taste, appearance, and portion size.
- Coordinates with kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation.
- Assists in menu planning and recipe development, suggesting improvements or modifications to enhance flavor and creativity.
- Trains new kitchen staff on proper food handling, safety procedures, and equipment operation.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including regular cleaning of equipment, workstations, and storage areas.
- Adheres to food safety and sanitation regulations, conducting regular inspections and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards.
- Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen.
- Skills in cooking and preparing a variety of foods.
- Ability to safely operate equipment, cutting tools, kitchen utensils and supplies.
- Ability to ob tain and maintain ServSafe Certification within 90 days of employment.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Strong customer service, communication, and listening skills.
- Ability to work with people from diverse economic, social, and political backgrounds.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of experience in a fast-paced, complex work environment demonstrating organizational and follow-through skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365, and aptitude to learn other software platforms.
- For company insurance purposes, at least 21 years of age; possess a current Arizona Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience in a fast-paced, complex work environment demonstrating organizational and follow-through skills.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Heavy Work which involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. If someone can do heavy work, we determine that he or she can also do medium, light, and sedentary work.
