OVERVIEW OF CCA
The Community College of Aurora serves our diverse community by providing high-quality instruction and support services to prepare students for transfer and employment.

In addition to traditional degree and certificate programs, CCA offers non-credit professional development courses, customized training, and economic and workforce development resources to employer partners and individual professionals seeking to enhance the capacity and productivity of their workforce or individual knowledge and skills.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
Job Duties:
Program Support (20%)
  • Assists staff with event set up and tear down, student sign in procedures, and event management for all TRIO events.
  • Understands and utilizes the following databases: CCA built databases, Student Access for TRIO SSS, EAB Navigate, and Banner.
  • Assists staff with delivering timely communication to all program participants via electronic delivery, social media, phone calls, emails, and text messages.
  • Assist staff with recruitment efforts including completing visits to classrooms, tabling, orientation presentations, and more.
  • Assist in ensuring an inclusive, engaging and respectful work environment/culture for all staff and students while modeling the TRIO values.
  • Enters student contact notes in TRIO SSS database and EAB Navigate per TRIO documentation guidelines.
  • Attends program cultural events, when needed, as a chaperone assisting with transportation, arranging meals for participants, and engaging in debrief sessions with students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Student Outreach for Retention (40%)
  • Provides supplementary advising support to students in an SSS program, when necessary, covering general advising assistance, notifications on important timelines and deadlines, and general financial aid and payment information.
  • Refers students to TRIO Academic Coach for more detailed advising when necessary.
  • Refers students to campus resources and community resources when necessary.
  • Provides motivation support and accountability support to students based on students individual goals and academic performance.
  • Makes outreach to students via electronic and traditional methods of communication in hopes of reaching out-of-touch students, unresponsive students, and students lacking commitment to the program.
  • Reaches out to students who are disengaging from the program and provides high touch support to re-engage them in services.
  • Provides detailed account of student's interactions in the program, including making classroom visits or contacts with professors, to ensure students preparedness for coursework.
Project Oversight (40%)
  • Lead in creation and delivery of pilot cohort program for English Language Learners in the areas of English skill development, computer literacy, and online tutoring support.
  • Build mentorship program for ELL students and ESL (English as a Second Language) faculty/instructors and have direct oversight of program.
  • Provide one on one individualized coaching sessions with pilot program participants to gather feedback and learn student needs for necessary program adjustments.
  • Collect data and research to support project implementation and continuity.
  • Collaborate across divisions to aid with student needs as necessary for project success.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Ability to provide personalized attention to student participants in the TRIO ESL program. Ability to assist students with basic academic advising and financial aid information and refer to full time coach when needed for more detailed conversations. Must have the ability to interpret complex policies and interpret messaging to students in need. Must be comfortable working with a diverse student group including working with students who are English learners and helping to promote confidence in their academic abilities.
Minimum qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher.
  • Experience working with students in an educational environment.
  • Professional or personal experiences in overcoming barriers such as being first generation, being from a low-income background, having a disability, or being historically underrepresented in education.
  • Ability to document all contacts and services provided to students in SSS participants.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Fluent in English in writing, speaking, and reading.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Formal training and/or work experience in programming that improves the academic good standing rates of participants.
  • Experience working with a TRIO program or similar program
  • Bilingual (all languages considered)
Supplemental information
Job Specifics:
  • Anticipated salary is $22.00/hr. on a part-time basis.
  • This is a grant funded position. This position will end in June or July 2023.
  • All school observed holidays, breaks between semesters, and campus closures off including winter break and spring break.
  • Work schedule of 20 hours per week.
  • Must be available during Monday through Friday normal business hours (8am-6pm) with occasional evening and weekend availability.
  • Anticipated start date of December 1, 2022.
