You'll join a team of talented and passionate people who are motivated to make our community as strong and resilient as possible.

HOURS: Monday – Friday, 25 hours per week.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for assisting the Head Start/Early Head Start/Child Care Food Services Coordinator and Cook in the preparation of meals for Head Start/Early Head Start and Child Care classrooms. Assists in all phases of food service, preparation and clean up. Delivers food to satellite sites as needed.

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Prepares food for meals as assigned.
  • Packages food items for transportation.
  • Stores and retrieves food items and supplies from storage areas.
  • Cleans the kitchen, including counters, refrigerators, freezers, stoves, ovens, walls, range hood and floors with various cleaning compounds.
  • Delivers food to satellite sites.
  • Follows all health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Attends training, staff meetings and center meetings as required by supervisor.
  • Substitutes for the Cook as needed.

  • Present a professional and positive image as a representative of CAPBM.
  • Follow established policies and procedures and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Communicate proactively with the supervisor regarding workflow, problems, suggestions, etc.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment; and attend team and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Be punctual for scheduled work, use time appropriately, and complete work in a timely fashion with minimal errors.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

  • One year of experience in quantity food production
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills to include managing diverse activities
  • Ability to work cooperatively with young children and agency staff
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and organize time to complete assigned tasks
  • Ability to work independently within a team environment
  • Mathematical ability to compute production counts and adapt quantity recipes

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalency credential.

License/Certification:

  • Successful completion of criminal record check.
  • Valid driver’s license with access to reliable transportation for required travel.
  • Must obtain ServSafe Food Handler Level certification within 60 days of hire.
