Position Summary: Under the direction of the Education Coordinator, assists with the overall planning and operations of the program and ensures quality services to children and families. Under the direction of the education coordinator, the early childhood coach will provide feedback and support to assist teaching staff in improving their practice. Required Education and Experience: 1.
Bachelor’s degree in child development/early childhood education or related field. 2. Three years teaching experience with children ages 0-5 in a licensed setting. 3.
One year in a supervisory or administrative position. License & Certifications: 1. Valid California Driver’s License and reliable insured vehicle available for business use (mileage reimbursed) and acceptable driving record. A DMV printout and proof of insurance will be required.
2. Must possess a Child Development Teacher Permit or higher. 3. Must provide certificates of completion of approved pediatric first aid and pediatric CPR training within (30) days of hire.
Employee is responsible for renewing and maintaining a valid CPR/first aid certification at all times. 4. Must have, or obtain by program-specified date, training in adult learning and in using assessment data to support coaching. 5.
Must be CLASS reliable within six months of hire and update reliability each year. 6. Must complete Safety Training (Performance Standard; 1302.47) within three months of hire. 7.
Must complete (16) hours of training on preventative health practices, as required by Health and Safety Code. Additional Eligibility Qualifications: 1. Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire. 2.
Must submit proof of current vaccination status for measles, pertussis, and influenza (or a current, signed influenza declination form) in compliance with SB 792. 3. Must comply with the CAPSLO COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, either being fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. 4.
Must complete a health screening physical completed within 30 days prior to employment and a current TB skin test/Chest X-Ray. 5. Employment is contingent upon meeting all job requirements and background requirements: criminal history check (Inclusive of DOJ, FBI and Child Abuse), acknowledgement of child abuse reporting responsibility, criminal record statement (Form LIC508), etc. A criminal history clearance is required prior to employment.
6. Upon hire agency staff will check the Megan’s Law (or the current sexual predator website) to ensure each staff being hired is clear for employment. Program administrative staff will check the website annually to ensure all program staff are cleared to work. 7.
Must meet the Head Start Performance Standards and State requirements. 8. Employment in Head Start, Early Head Start and Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Programs is contingent upon approval of the Policy Council. Essential Functions: 1.
Works closely with the education coordinators to plan and ensure a developmentally comprehensive, multicultural, anti-bias program for children and families. 2. Works closely with education coordinators, and specialists to plan and implement an effective training program for instructional staff to increase their knowledge, skills, and experience in child growth and development. 3.
Supports instructional staff through training, modeling, and guidance per coaching plan. Monitors the teaching staff for progress toward established goals. 4. Scores teachers using the Classroom Assessment and Scoring System (CLASS).
Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Participate in planning, development, and implementation of training along with education coordinators. 2. Work closely with education staff to ensure the curriculum model is implemented.
3. Ensure the center environment (indoors and outdoors) is developmentally appropriate, safe and offers children a wide variety of experiences. 4. Work closely with education staff at the beginning of the year for classroom set-up using fidelity tool and the appropriate environmental rating scales.
5. Participate in community collaborations and local Quality Matters programs, QRIS Consortium and First Five. 6. Establish communication and dialogue with other coaches and consultant from other agencies working with CYFS staff.
7. Support staff in using child assessment data to develop goals and implement activities to support each child’s learning. 8. Networks within and/or outside the agency to increase knowledge of resources and services that benefit clients; develop effective relationships; further agency and community goals; and/or raise the profile of CAPSLO and its programs.
9. Must maintain confidentiality at all times. 10. Must use reasonable precaution in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices; and act in such a manner as to assure at all times, maximum safety to oneself, fellow employees, clients, and others.
11. Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Director and/or Education Coordinator. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge 1. Must be familiar with the division’s education curricula, curriculum fidelity tools, Environmental Rating Scales, CYFS child assessment tool and school readiness goals.
2. Knowledge of coaching systems, including online systems. 3. Knowledgeable of activities, literature, and other program contents appropriate for bilingual and multicultural education.
4. Be familiar with the CYFS data system and support teaching staff with the assessment data system. 5. Strong knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities, including literature, music and movement, multicultural and bilingual education, anti-bias curriculum, and other program content.
6. Must have knowledge of administrative and management techniques. Skills 1. Skill in evaluation and implementation of educational lesson planning for groups and individuals, some of whom are individuals with disabilities.
2. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, and be able to communicate effectively with clients and program staff. 3. Must have strong computer skills, with knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel, data management software, and web-based applications.
4. Must demonstrate sound decision-making, and administrative skills. Abilities 1. Must demonstrate ability to provide training and support for staff in early childhood education, including child growth and development, guidance techniques, child observation and assessment, diversity and inclusion, individualized programming, and curriculum development.
2. Must be familiar with the system developed by CAPSLO to determine who would 3. most benefit from intensive coaching in their area. 4.
Ability to meet deadlines pertaining to required coaching documents. 5. Demonstrate emotional maturity, stability, tactfulness, and the ability to provide professional leadership. 6.
Must have knowledge of and the ability to comply with applicable laws and regulations. 7. Must be able to maintain good working relationships with other program staff. 8.
Must be self-motivated and able to work with a minimum of supervision. 9. Must be able to relate well to all people of the community regardless of color, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or socio-economic level. 10.
Must understand, uphold, and continue working toward accomplishing the mission, strategic goals, and performance measures of the agency. 11. Ability to organize and maintain accurate record keeping and reporting. Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but serves as a coach and mentor to education staff.
Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office and/or classroom environment. Additionally, this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical 1.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds, and have unrestricted use of the upper and lower body. 2. Bend, squat, reach, kneel, and climb stairs. 3.
Position requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, twisting and bending for long periods of time. 4. Ability to move from a sitting to standing position quickly, safely, and without difficulty. Vision 1.

Compensation and Benefits Package Medical, Dental, Vision, Flexible Spending Plan CAPSLO offers benefits through a group medical, dental, vision, flexible spending account, life and AD&D insurance program. CAPSLO pays the full amount (100%) of the premiums to cover full-time employees, and half (50%) of the premiums to cover eligible part-time employees. Eligible employees may elect, at their own cost, to have medical, dental and vision insurance coverage for their dependents. Additionally, CAPSLO offers a Long Term Disability ("LTD") insurance program for eligible employees.
Retirement Savings Plan CAPSLO offers eligible employees the opportunity to contribute a portion of their earnings to a Section 403(b) Retirement Plan. Employees are 100% vested upon enrollment into the plan. CAPSLO matches 60% of every dollar contributed up to an annual maximum of 15% of your annual salary (not to exceed IRS limits) after 6 months of employment. Holidays Twelve paid holidays during the course of the each calendar year.
Employees also receive one extra workday off with pay as a "Personal Holiday." Vacation/Sick Leave CAPSLO awards 80-160 hours of vacation annually with a maximum accrual of 320 hours, depending on years of service. Paid Sick time is accrued at 8 hours per month (based on weekly hours) with a maximum accrual of 280 hours. CAPSLO also offers the opportunity to convert unused sick time to vacation and a vacation cash out for eligible employees once a year. Additional Benefits CAPSLO offers additional benefits including employee assistance program (EAP), reduced rates for pet insurance, reduced rates for cellular phone service, reduced rates for car rentals, and additional time off for positions classified as exempt, and workers’ compensation insurance.
