Job Title: DIRECTOR OF NURSING
Reports To: CMO
FLSA Status: Full-Time Exempt
Purpose:
The Director of Nursing is responsible and accountable for the planning, organizing, directing and evaluating the nursing services of Community Access Network. (CAN). This vital member of the Leadership Team assures that the vision, mission, and strategic goals of the organizations are integrated into all nursing services and clinical patient contacts. Working within the federal and state regulations covering Federally Qualified Health Centers, the Director of Nursing works innovatively to meet the needs of our patients while supporting and developing clinical staff members. Collaborating closely with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Medical Directors, the Director of Nursing establishes and participates in program development and implementation. The Director of Nursing oversees hiring, training, and coaching all nurses, medical assistants, scribes, and other clinical staff to ensure that high-quality patient care is provided and that there is economical and efficient performance.
Responsibilities:
· Oversees nursing and other clinical services provided at CAN to ensure high-quality, consistent and compassionate care for all patients. Maintains and continuously improves provision of nursing and other clinical services.
· Directs and provides clinical care, including assisting providers during exams and procedures as needed, administering injections, and medications as ordered, and performing other direct patient care.
· Collaborates with the CMO and Medical Directors to establish clinical protocols, policies and procedures for nursing and other clinical services. Demonstrates commitment to excellence by consistently looking for ways to improve and promote quality within the organization.
· Ensures compliance with standards, laws and regulations as directed by regulatory and accrediting organizations, including but not limited to HRSA, CLIA, OSHA, Board of Nursing, State and Federal Governments as it pertains to nursing and clinical services.
· Works with clinical staff to ensure that each staff member understands their job description, the desired results associated with their work, and the resources available to achieve the results.
· Trains and develops clinical staff to ensure they are able to perform their duties and provide high quality patient care.
· Plans, assigns, and directs the work of nurses, medical assistants, scribes, and other clinical staff; evaluates performance; follows the CAN disciplinary process; addresses staff complaints with the guidance of the HR Manager; approves timesheets.
· Working with the CMO and Medical Directors, participates in quality improvement and program development activities and initiatives.
· Maintains relationships with community and academic partners to assure access and sustainability of services.
· Manages students from a variety of professional schools receiving training at CAN.
· In conjunction with CEO and CMO, manages and grows additional services at CAN.
· Works with providers to be sure all procedures and protocols are followed to ensure that follow up is provided in a timely fashion.
· Ensures a safe environment for patients and staff; working with other member of the Leadership Team to quicky resolve safety issues.
· Maintains a professional demeanor in all interactions with patients and staff. Responds positively to constructive criticism from peers and supervisors.
· Ensures that an appropriate chief complaint, medical, family and social history; review of systems, examination, medications and allergies, and assessment and plan for each patient is obtained and documented in the electronic health record.
· Reviews provider medical orders for prescription refills, administration of medications, and laboratory testing.
· Available to patients, through clinical staff, to answer question and relay information regarding their care.
· Completes appropriate paperwork to comply with policies and procedures and within timelines required.
· Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
· Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
· Current Virginia licensure as a Registered Nurse
· CPR Certification
· At least 5 years’ supervisory experience
· At least 3 years’ experience in an outpatient health care setting
· Must have computer knowledge of Microsoft Office, electronic health records
Preferred Qualifications
· Warm outgoing personality, with the ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with persons of all backgrounds
· Ability to work well under pressure
· Ability to multi-task and to prioritize work
· Bi-lingual in English and Spanish
· Experience in eClinical Works
