Communitas is dedicated to delivering individualized, family-centered services, programs, and support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, throughout their lifespan and in their communities.

Responsibilities…

Specialized Skills Instructor's are responsible for mentoring individuals to enhance their independence by helping them network socially, develop friendships and create new relationships through our Upward Program. We are looking for someone with a relaxed approach to mentoring people and would be responsible for teaching communication, social and daily living skills to individuals with higher abilities on the autism spectrum. Successful applicants will be creative thinkers who can adapt their own interests, such as art, music, and health & fitness, to teach others new things.

  • The pay rate for this position is $19.00 per hour.
  • This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week.
  • The schedule is Monday - Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Qualifications and skills…

  • High School diploma is required, a bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities is preferred, a passion and dedication to supporting our people is a must.
  • A valid driver's license, acceptable driving record and reliable transportation is required.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check including references, CORI, and fingerprinting.

You can make a difference by…

  • Teaching and supporting a group of young people who have autism without a developmental disability, using a consistent and patient teaching approach.
  • Providing personal assistance to individuals consistent with their needs as defined in their support plans. Must have the ability to adapt and make adjustments to techniques based on functional abilities and limitations. This includes complete familiarity with the profiles and histories of individuals supported and active signs that care and assistance follow their prescribed needs.
  • Participating in the development and direct implementation of the Individual Support Plan, shaping annual assessments and goals, and attending team meetings.
  • Assessing individual's training needs, cultivating descriptive teaching programs, and monitoring effectiveness through data collection.
  • Developing and implementing community-based activities that promote independence, community inclusion, dignity, and respect while enhancing personal skill development.
