Costume Shop Manager - The Winter’s Tale, Shakespeare on the Common 2024

FLSA Status: Temporary; Full-Time; Non-Exempt employment on a W2

  • Costume shop rental located at the Huntington Theatre shop
  • Occasional storage runs to our storage facilities in Canton, MA will be required
  • Occasional visits to rehearsal will be required, which will take place in Boston
  • The performance itself takes place on the Boston Common near the Parkman Bandstand

Compensation: $23.50 per hour, with any hours over 40 in a given week payable at an overtime rate of $35.25 per hour. Anticipated total hours for the project are 155. Payments will be made in the week following completion of work, typically on Thursdays.

Candidates must be located within commuting distance of the Boston Common as housing is not provided.

Engagement Dates: June 10-August 11, 2024

Important Dates:

  • Kick-Off Event: June 17 at the Modern Theatre (Optional Attendance)
  • Load In: July 1-9
  • Strike/Load Out: August 6-11
  • Note: This position should not expect to work from July 10-August 5

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Costume Shop Manager reports to the Director of Production and works with the Costume Designer and rental shop to complete the build, purchase, and/or borrowing of costumes for the production. Responsibilities may include:

  • Ordering materials and supplies
  • Coordinating fittings
  • Overseeing the distribution and completion of notes
  • Tracking expenses and receipts to ensure the project remains on budget
  • Creating necessary paperwork for handoff to the Wardrobe Supervisor during load in
  • Pull items from CSC stock, located in Canton, MA
  • Assist with costume strike/load out, including returning rented and/or stock items to the proper location

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • On-site job requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry 50lbs
  • Ability to navigate stairs and uneven terrain
  • Valid driver’s license
  • 18 years of age
  • Experience with and ability to meet all duties and responsibilities as listed above
  • Desired qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in theatre
  • 3 years experience in Shop Management or a related field
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Experience in managing large crews
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Personal vehicle a plus
