Job Duties
Virginia operates 12 facilities: eight behavioral health facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for behavioral rehabilitation. State facilities provide highly structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness, intellectual disability or are in need of substance use disorder services.
DBHDS is looking for experienced registered nurses that assesses patients’ health problems and needs, develop, and implement psychiatric nursing care plans and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to ill, injured, or disabled patients at a psychiatric hospital/institution. Advise patients on health maintenance, disease prevention or provide case management. Ability to serve as charge nurse as needed.

Central State Hospital-Petersburg, Virginia
Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents-Staunton, Virginia
Eastern State Hospital-Williamsburg, Virginia
Hiram W. Davis Medical Center- Petersburg, Virginia
Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute- Falls Church, Virginia
Piedmont Geriatric Center-Burkeville, Virginia
Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute- Danville, Virginia
Western State Hospital-Staunton, Virginia
These roles come with a sign on bonus, potential for student loan repayment and 529 contributions.
Evening/nights and holiday shift differentials offered for these roles.
$5.50- second shift during the week
$4.00- third shift during the week
$5.50 -first shift on weekends or holidays
$6.00- second shift on weekends or holidays
$7.00- third shift on weekends or holidays
Minimum Qualifications
Active RN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Ability to serve as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team
