This is a para-professional position under the supervision of a Family Services Supervisor that performs responsible professional work in the support and assistance of County and City residents involved in the foster care system. General responsibilities include following case management requirements established by the Family Services Supervisor, coordinating, transporting supervising, documenting, and communicating about visitation between children and their parents/family members, documenting in OASIS third party visitations, assisting Family Services Specialists with tertiary case responsibilities to include requests for records such as medical, educational and psychological, filing, obtaining birth certificates and social security cards, filing for social security benefits, complete credit freezes, conducting relative and adoption searches, writing and sending notification letters identified from those searches. The position will also provide assistance to Family Services Specialists on an as-needed basis: providing referrals for community-based services, participating and testifying in legal proceedings, maintaining communication with clients and professionals, assists in completing monthly visits with foster children, maintaining case records, participating in treatment team, family partnership, and case planning meetings, and performing other assigned duties. Assists in providing emergency shelter as mandated.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s) required to successfully perform the work: Working knowledge of: agency’s computer systems and software; principles and processes for providing customer and personal services; human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; and mathematics. Some knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures of the assigned program area as related to assisting the clients; may require some knowledge of counseling terminology and practices.
Skill: needed with operating a motor vehicle and personal computer with associated software. Demonstrated ability to: plan, organize, and manage own work activities including service delivery, preparing technical reports and correspondence, and record keeping and related activities; understand policies, and regulations; effectively communicate ideas both orally and in writing; counsel and refer clients to other resources as needed; respond to the client's emotions in order to accomplish services objectives; establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, associates, other social service agencies and the general public; work as a part of a team; and stay abreast of current trends and developments in the social work field.
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification): High school diploma supplemented with post-secondary coursework in subjects such as social work, human services, gerontology, or one of the social or behavioral sciences, business or related field, and relevant work experience in public administrative support work OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Possession of a valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Must pass the agency’s background checks.
Preferred Qualifications (Experience, Licensure, Certification): Possession of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or minimum of a Bachelor's degree in any field and a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area (Section 22VAC40-670-20 of the Administrative Code of Virginia) is preferred.
