Job Duties

About the Agency:
DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.
The teacher will provide quality educational programs through sound instruction to meet the individual needs of resident students. Teacher will be assigned to teach GED/ISAEP courses and prepare students to sit for GED tests. Teacher will comply with the standards defined under the Commonwealth’s statutes and program certification requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, or higher. Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching Certificate/License with an endorsement in Adult Education or academic subject(s). Knowledge of GED/ISAEP academic content, curriculum, methods, materials, equipment in order to successfully perform the work of a GED/ISAEP teacher. Ability to supervise students and youth, facilitate appropriate classroom management, and maintain accurate records. Experience teaching GED/ISAEP courses and successfully preparing students for the GED examination Regular and predictable attendance is expected.

Additional Considerations

Prior experience teaching at-risk youth.
