Hiring Range: Anticipated salary: $105,000 - $111,000. Salary commensurate with the education and experience of the applicant.

Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. | Reynolds Community College seeks a Dean for the School of STEM. The Dean is responsible for championing and leading all aspects of the School, including maintaining and improving curricular and teaching excellence and innovation. The Dean will be responsible for researching and analyzing program development and assessment of existing programs in partnership with regional education and employer partners. The successful candidate will be highly engaged in delivering a high-quality educational experience for all students. The Dean will be responsible for recruiting, supporting and developing faculty who are focused on instructional excellence. This includes, but is not limited to hiring, evaluating faculty credentials, conducting classroom observations and evaluations, managing faculty teaching loads, guiding faculty development opportunities, and providing day-to-day support for faculty. The Dean will also provide oversight of curricular changes, program assessment, and will play a central role in developing and strengthening transfer pathways. The successful candidate will work closely with K-12 partners in supporting dual enrollment. The Dean of the School of STEM will be a key member of the Reynolds Academic Leadership Team and as such, will continually engage in collaboration with administration, faculty, and staff at the college, including but not limited to colleagues in student affairs, the business office, institutional advancement, facilities and technology. Additional responsibilities include oversight of enrollment management, development and implementation of distance learning instructional delivery where appropriate; coordination of student learning assessment; approval of student graduation applications; development and implementation of articulation agreements; coordination of marketing and public relations of School programs; leadership, hiring, management, and payroll administration of program faculty and technical staff; fiscal and budgetary management; acquisition and oversight of grants and scholarship monies; and oversight of instructional software, equipment, and other instructional resources. The Dean is a 12-month administrative position and reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A master’s degree in a STEM-related field from an accredited institution.
  • Relevant experience with building relationships with four-year transfer institutions, employer partners and K-12 leaders. 
  • Considerable knowledge of community college or higher education administration, curriculum design, and instructional methods in varying delivery modes and technology. 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide visionary leadership for faculty, staff and administrators.
  • Fluent with current best practices within post-secondary pedagogy, student engagement and retention.
  • Demonstrated passion for ensuring equitable outcomes for all students.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and lead a team to resolution.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating across college divisions, including student affairs.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising faculty and staff, conducting employee evaluations, recommending hiring appointments, and managing classification and rank determinations. 
  • Experience advising students and the ability to manage faculty advising
  • Experience with budget and resource management. 
  • Excellent ability to communicate in written and verbal form.
  • Experience securing and managing grant resources, including implementation of grant projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations, and a commitment to increasing a sense of belonging on campus. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new academic programs, expand existing programs, assess current programs and implement action plans based on results.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain community relationships to build and promote the academic offerings of the school. 
  • The selected candidate will be required to complete the Commonwealth’s Statement of Economic Interest, and must successfully pass the college’s pre-employment security screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A doctorate in a discipline within the School of STEM, higher education or related field.
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Progressive and extensive experience in building collaborative relationships with four-year colleges and universities as well as employer partners. 
  • Progressive experience in college administration at the community college level. 
  • Current experience in designing transfer programs that promote student access and success through stackable academic pathways. 
  • Experience in faculty development
  • Experience with curriculum design and instructional methods in varying delivery modes (virtual, hybrid and in person).
