Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Education seeks a Board Relations and Regulatory Liaison to provide a wide range of executive and administrative support to nine members of the Board of Education, Office of Board Relations, Policy and Government Relations Division, and the Superintendent of Public Instruction utilizing knowledge of agency functions and programs.
Specific duties include:
• Managing the constituent inbox for the Board
• Drafting and responding to constituent requests
• Assisting in proofreading and editing Board presentations and reports
• Assisting the regulatory coordinator in the submission of regulatory packages
• Assisting in the orientation of new Board members
• Coordinating all meeting arrangements and preparing minutes
• Assists with managing the submission and review of Board meeting materials
• Processing requests for information by staff and public
• Organizes and disseminates draft and final Board meeting materials for agency leadership and the Board
• Preparing and completing purchase orders and travel vouchers

Minimum Qualifications

Selected candidate must have:
• Demonstrated experience providing support to executives (managing and organizing work load)
• Considerable experience drafting, proofreading, and editing formal correspondence, reports, PowerPoint presentations, and meeting materials/minutes
• Comprehensive knowledge of general office organization, practices, and procedures
• Proficiency in English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation
• Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to exercise considerable independent judgement
• Strong skills and experience in using SharePoint and word processing programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, Acrobat Adobe)
• Ability to complete assignments with minimal supervision in a timely manner to meet established goals and objectives
• Knowledge of basic accounting procedures and state fiscal guidelines
• Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment with multiple priorities and changing circumstances
Must also have the ability to handle confidential matters/materials; have a professional demeanor; the ability to communicate both orally and written, with policy leaders and members of the public and ability to establish good working relationships with a large group of professional staff members.

Additional Considerations

Bachelor's or associate's degree
Knowledge of Virginia's electronic procurement system (eVa)
