Description
The Kentucky Department of Parks is responsible for providing a sustainable system of parks that delivers quality programs, amenities, and services which create memorable experiences and a sense of place, contributes to the economic growth of the Commonwealth, and preserves the historic and natural integrity, and traditions of our parks for existing and future generations.

The Tourism Marketing Specialist will assist the Division of Interpretation & Engagement in expanding artist related programming at Kentucky State Parks and serve as the primary liaison for all State Park Gift Shops. Developing and promoting Artists-In-Residence programs, special events and providing administrative support to Gift Shop Staff will be responsibilities for this role.

The Tourism Marketing Specialist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Identifying local artists and craftsmen that can produce items for retail in Parks Gift Shops or participate in programming or special events at Park.
  • Develop and implement an official Kentucky State Parks Artist-In-Residence Program.
  • Work with Marketing Department and others to coordinate promotion of artist focused programs and events.
  • Serve as Central Office Liaison for all Gift Shop staff across State Parks.
  • Coordinate and provide training and other educational opportunities for Gift Shop Staff to drive revenue for Parks.
  • Work with other Parks departments to provide guidance and direction for Gift Shop staff on any necessary issues related to purchasing, retail displays, product identification, data tracking, etc.
  • Assist the Director with execution of other special events or Parks projects.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of experience in marketing, advertising sales, copy writing, or promotional sales.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in marketing, advertising sales, and/or copywriting or promotional sales will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions
Work typically involves extensive contact with the public. Travel may be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
