Opportunity Youth Director of Supportive Services - Full Time.
Location: Youth Opportunity Hub 82-17 Parsons Blvd. Jamaica NY 11432.
Department Overview:Commonpoint Queens (Samuel Field YM&YWHA) Opportunity Youth, Adult Workforce is comprised of employment and support programs serving individuals predominantly adults 18 and over and opportunity youth ages 16-24. Opportunity Youth provides career pathway for opportunity youth through a continuum of services including literacy and math instruction, HSE test preparation, work readiness training, college and career exploration, paid work experience, advanced occupational training and industry credential attainment. Our programs supports opportunity youth at any educational level, providing on-ramps at various levels through three program components, each supported by case management and wrap-around services.
Position Details:Commonpoint Queens is seeking to hire a Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Mental Health Counselor who will provide guidance and support to the Opportunity Youth staff and participants. The Director of Supportive Services will be responsible for supervising case managers and social work interns, providing crisis intervention for participants, connecting participants to needed resources, and assisting with referrals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of Supportive Services for Opportunity Youth will:
  • Develop Community Partnerships to assist with building up mutual referral processes.
  • Identify participant needs trends to help in the development of resources for participants.
  • Assist Case Managers and Support Skills Instructors with the creation of Life Skills Workshops.
  • Maintain the referral tracker to monitor participants’ barriers and progress in referral processes.
  • Provide support to case managers with mental health assessments, ISS needs, and support groups to program participants with the direction of program directors.
  • Support in crisis intervention as needed.
  • Provide short term counseling (3 sessions) to participants waiting for referrals.
  • Maintain effective communication and rapport with participants, staff, and support systems.
  • Conduct care coordination with outside treatment providers/referrals with the goal of improving participants well being and progress.
  • Provide continued case review with high-risk cases under program directors.
  • Review, approve, and ensure casenotes are entered into PTS by the program deadline.
  • Have a caseload when assigned to support case managers on the Opportunity Youth Team.
  • Act as site SIFI supervisor for social work interns.
  • Order participant snacks, beverages, and scrubs within a given budget.
  • Organize success stories and participant participation in agency events.
  • Attend local community partnership meetings to learn about resources for participants.
  • Plan graduation and end of year student celebrations.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
  • LMSW, LMHC, or CLSW.
  • Sifi Certified.
  • 3-5 years of experience working with at-risk youth.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point) live-edit documents.
  • Able to work out of other Commonpoint Queens locations as needed.
  • Occasional weekend and evening hours will be necessary.
