About This Role

Every position at Common Citizen from seed to sale, is contributing to our mission to serve our fellow citizens of Michigan with the highest quality, safest cannabis product through our highly individualized and education-oriented provisioning centers. The Senior Operations Controller will provide expert financial analytics to all operations and supply chain for the business. They will have the direct responsibility to ensure integrity and timeliness of financial data and be responsible for all accounting, treasury, and internal control aspects of the business. They must possess the ability to be a self-starter and handle workload proactively, manage their time wisely, and manage multiple tasks during stringent month-end deadlines.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Oversees financial aspects of operations, supply chain and retail strategy, supporting the business to drive productivity, cost savings and assuring proper control.
  • Coordinate with the FP&A manager for the preparation of financial statements, financial reports, and supporting analyses (both defined and ad hoc), along with meaningful commentary to explain results to various levels within the organization. Ensures financial reporting requirements to company deadlines and criteria are met.
  • Ensure that the company general ledger, fixed assets, payroll customer billing, accounts receivable and payable, inventory systems, and routines operate effectively and efficiently.
  • Interact with the management team to provide consultative support for business improvement initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports, and recommendations.
  •  Manage the relationship with outside auditors; direct the audit processes and ensure beneficial tax outcomes.

The Experience You Bring and the Skills we Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related major is required; CPA certification is preferred.
  • 5 years of finance and business leadership experience in finance and accounting organization.
  • Demonstrated excellence in managing finance, accounting, and controls.
  • Demonstrated experience in evaluating business controls (identification of control weaknesses) and implementing control improvements together with developing methods to efficiently monitor control compliance on an ongoing basis.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing oversight and aggressive management of operating expenses.
  • Demonstrated evidence of having experience in continually identifying, assessing, and communicating risks and exposures within or faced by the business and having developed measures to effectively mitigate such risks on a timely basis.
  • Demonstrated experience in continually reviewing and updating product costing information, ensuring that the product costs reflect actual cost.
  • Ability to gather and evaluate financial information and make actionable recommendations to senior leadership in a manufacturing and retail environment.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • High character traits (ethics and honesty) and ability and willingness to take and defend difficult positions when necessary.
  • Proactive, poised, and possessing a sense of urgency, with evidence of having worked as a true business partner.
  • Good business acumen.

  • This is a dynamic team, and as such daily tasks may vary, resulting in a fast-paced and lively work environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit for long periods of time.
  • Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in a greenhouse environment (tolerance of heat & humidity).
