The Pre-Construction Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Technician II assists in creating detailed 3D VDC models utilizing computer aided design software (CAD). The Pre-Construction VDC Technician II will be heavily involved with creating shop and spool drawings using company templates and following Comfort Systems standards. They will produce clean, organized and well-defined documentation that will be issued to field crew, our factory and our clients.

The following includes, but are not limited to, the essential duties and responsibilities of this position. (Other duties may be assigned).

• Produce plan view shop drawings for field construction teams
• Create spool/isometric sheets for pre-fabrication
• Produce high quality deliverables within very strict time constraints
• Set up sheet layouts, dimensions styles, scales and viewports
• Communicate with team members, project manager, and clients regularly for project updates
• Provide input in any process improvements
• Review and quality check all deliverables
• Assist in the develop of our VDC documentation standards. Standards shall also include developing and maintaining VDC libraries and templates
• Develop basic 3D blocks of components and material that will be used as the basis of work
• Participate in VDC coordination meetings with the Preconstruction VDC PM and VDC Partner to assist with the on development of the VDC model and associated documentation
• Stay current CAD/VDC software and best practices by attending webinars and off-site seminars/training sessions when approved by manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in mechanical or plumbing trade a plus.
• Obtained or pursuing an associate degree in Engineering Technology, Architectural Engineering, or Computer Aided Drafting.
• Experience in AutoCAD MEP, Revit Fabrication, Navisworks or other VDC software.
• Proficient in Microsoft products.
• Knowledge of BIM 360 products.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

One or more years of AutoCAD education, training, or related experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Exceptional organizational skills with ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks. Capable of grasping and retaining basic mechanical, and/or plumbing design principles and working independently. Desire to work in a fast-paced team environment to complete tasks accurately and efficiently.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Must be able to read and evaluate project construction documents, plans and specifications.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

COMPUTER/SOFTWARE SKILLS:

Ability to use MS Office Excel and Word. Experience with Navisworks, Bluebeam, and Autodesk software including Revit Fabrication is desirable.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
